In this meditation, Jesus declares to his people that he is the confirmation of the word of God spoken to them. He is the Truth that sets us free from our misconceptions, fears, and personal demons. He is the Way to keep life and love. He opens our eyes to the glory of his mercy. He proclaims over our lives acceptability because he bled for us and took the fall for us. We are called to be that to one another. But first, I need to believe he is all that for me and surrender to his heart that wants to give me peace, hope, and absolute joy.
How do I do that? It is always a question for me. I find it takes one moment at a time to learn to allow Jesus to heal my blindness, take my fears and give me peace. When I experience confusion, anxiety, or doubt, I get close to him and beg his mercy. His heart is turned towards us to grant us wherever grace is needed. I ask for grace as I am experiencing a need. I give him thanks as he answers all I need.
A few years ago, I did volunteer work with Covenant House in New York City. I was counseling a suicidal 12-year-old homeless child. I was afraid and overwhelmed. While the child was screaming and crying, I asked Jesus to come. Help her and give me wisdom. Well, Jesus came. The girl began to talk to me about her deep fears and pain. After two hours of conversation, tears, and hugs, she spoke about the next steps, her school work, and coming for counseling more. I can only do it that way since graces come moment by moment into human lives.
It is essential for us to learn to lean into Jesus and ask for his help. It can mean life and death for us to surrender our moments to him.
