Since time immemorial, humanity has regarded the moon with awe, mysticism, and reverence. The most recognized moon-inspired traditions occur during the Lunar New Year celebrations. Join us for the first 2024 art gallery exhibit, a mesmerizing multi-media art show, celebrating the moon and the traditions represented in the annual Lunar New Year event. The two-day show will be followed by an extended exhibit running from February 11 through February 25. For the gallery schedule and latest updates, visit www.ssf.net/culturalarts. |
Charlene "Shane" Looper Memorial Bench Dedication
Friday, February 10, 2024 at 6:00 p.m.
As part of a brief opening ceremony to the "By the Light of the Moon" Art Show, community members are invited to a special dedication of the newest artistic addition—an exquisite memorial bench dedicated to the late Cultural Arts Commissioner and community volunteer, Charlene “Shane” Looper. Shane Looper's profound commitment to the arts unfolded not only in her thirteen years of service on the Cultural Arts Commission but also in her skill as a master floral designer. Her advocacy extended to art exhibits, public art, the Jack Drago Cultural Arts Commission Youth Art Scholarship, and the Improving Public Places Committee.
The bench, named "Composition #4" and crafted by artist Mike Gustavson, is now situated on the third floor of the Library | Parks and Recreation Center at 901 Civic Campus Way.

The Orange Memorial Park Master Plan envisions the addition of dedicated pickleball courts, as funding allows. To provide a space for this growing sport in the interim, tennis court #5 at Orange Memorial Park will be dedicated for pickleball activities as a demonstration project to determine if that court could be permanently used for pickleball.
Following completion of the pilot project, which will conclude in mid-2024, the court may be resurfaced to repair cracked surfacing, permanently restriped, and outfitted with pickleball nets to the extent budget allows.
During this demonstration period, your feedback will help inform the future of this court. Please take our survey using the following link: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/3XLVFDT.
