CELEBRATING LUNAR NEW YEAR

Happy year of the dragon! Ring in Lunar New Year with books, crafts, and more festive fun at one of the following programs.

Say hi to Library staff at the Lunar New Year Celebration on Courthouse Square on Saturday, February 24 from 11am-4pm.

 

Redwood City, its Parks Recreation and Community Services Department, and partner Redwood City International will be hosting the 13th Annual Lunar New Year Celebration! City Officials and Staff will be joined by lion dancers, martial artists, taiko drummers, and other live performances, for this celebration of the Year of the Dragon. More information here

TRAVELING STORYTIME

Help us revamp and grow our most beloved program! Traveling Storytime’s trained volunteers read to groups of children in daycare centers and preschools throughout Redwood City. Since its inception in 2000, volunteers have read to over 500,000 children. At the open house you can:

  • Learn how your preschool can join
  • Sign up to become a volunteer reader
  • Take home a free felt board story kit
  • Enjoy refreshments

Bring your kiddos to the Downtown Library for a pre-game Superbowl party for kids. Go Niners!


We can't think of a better way to spend the day than with our favorite, Andy Z at our Mardi Gras party! On Sunday, February 11 at noon, join us for a joyful celebration at the Downtown Library and be ready for crafts, games, and toe-tapping music from Andy Z.

Adult Makers: The Art of Alma Thomas


The trailblazing Alma Thomas was the first Black woman to have a solo exhibition in the Whitney Museum and is often heralded as a major American painter of the 20th century. This Black History Month, attend a workshop at one of our libraries to learn more about Thomas’ life, influences, and artistic process, then create your own painting inspired by her style. Materials will be provided.
