Farewell to Julia
I’m grateful that one day back in ’07 that I was invited to apply and interview for the Executive Director position at the Royse City Chamber of Commerce. In those early days I had a lot to learn. It was because of the City and business leaders & my Board that took the time to serve as mentors that I was able to grow into the role and develop a passion for it.
Every year there has been something new to learn and a desire to propel our Chamber to the next level. Our Business After Hours and networking have grown. Our membership has continued to grow. Being an advocate for local & government issues, education, economic development and community awareness are all now a normal part of our duties.
Being visible in our community is a joy to us because we ARE a part of this community. We want what is best for it the same as you do. Through the years I have answered some interesting phone calls (“Can you change the date of FunFest because my daughter is getting married that day”?); advocated for what I felt was important to our City (maybe even ruffling a few feathers); and enjoyed meeting countless people who have molded me into the person I am today (more knowledgeable, able to think outside of the box, a professional multi-tasker, etc.).
Let’s be honest – it’s going to be difficult for me to totally step away from this life that I am used to. I will still feel like it’s my responsibility to “make things happen”. But I know that my successors are excited about the future of the Royse City Chamber and taking a very active role in the comprehensive plan for our City.
I look forward to seeing you all around town as a “spectator” instead of an “event planner”!
Love to all and Godspeed.
