key Colorado organizations

This campaign has attracted significant additional endorsements since the last newsletter went out, and we would like to share them with you here. They include

ONE Colorado, Planned Parenthood Votes Colorado and Conservation Colorado. We're proud to have these endorsements, and we are grateful for the confidence that these organizations have demonstrated.

While all the endorsements are important, the mention from the Colorado AFL-CIO particularly resonated with my family. Many of you know that I grew up on the Western slope in a working-class family, with strong union ties. I know how seriously these union leaders consider their endorsements, and don't hand them out lightly.

Westminster Pride Day

Thanks to everyone who participated in the recent Westminster Pride Day. We cleaned up a big portion of Little Dry Creek Trail and ended up with several huge bags of litter. Check the campaign website for some of the photos that we collected that day. We also enjoyed the city-sponsored BBQ afterward, despite the unseasonal weather.

Help for Sand and the City

We are looking for people who want to help staff the Rachel Zenzinger campaign booth at Sand and the City at Ralston Park in Arvada, June 25-26. It's an opportunity to enjoy the event and help the campaign at the same time, in the great Colorado summer weather. We need volunteers to staff the campaign booth in two-hour shifts, between 11 a.m. - 9 p.m. the first day and between 11 a.m. - 5 p.m. the second day. Also, the ONE Colorado Parade (see list of endorsements in this newsletter) is June 19 at 9:30 a.m. from Cheesman Park, and Zenzinger campaign supporters will parade with the Colorado Democratic Party. Send an email to [email protected] if you are available to participate.

We wish you a happy and very pleasant Memorial Day today, and we especially hope that you will get to spend time with family, friends and others who are close to you. Please remember to take a moment to pay respects to the men and women of the armed forces who gave their lives to preserve our liberty and our American way of life.

Champions of education

Most of you are aware that my professional background is in education, and it is one of the main issues in this campaign for State Senate District 19. So I am excited to announce that a huge group of teachers, educators and others have collaborated on a fundraising event June 12 at the home of Jonna and Jay Levine, 4-6 p.m. I hope you can join us.

The event is being organized by Sen. Kerr, Jonna Levine and Shawna Fritzler.Co-hosts include U.S. Congressman Ed Perlmutter; Cheri Jahn, Lucia Guzman, Nancy Todd, and Michael Merrifield; Jefferson County Commissioner Casey Tighe; State Representatives Max Tyler, Brittany Pettersen, Jessie Danielson and Tracy Kraft-Tharp; and State Rep. Candidate Chris Kennedy.

Education represents Colorado's second-biggest budget item. It deserves attention from the policymakers who are willing to take the necessary steps to provide our children with high-quality schools regardless of their parents' income or zip code.

Other volunteer roles

If you are interested in volunteering to help with this campaign on an ongoing basis, please send an email to [email protected]. Volunteer activity has noticeably increased during the last couple of weeks, and things are going to become even more dynamic in the next month. We need people to go door-to-door, make phone calls, write post cards, enter data, etc. The success of this campaign will be determined by the amount of work that our volunteers offer to do.

Yard signs are coming!

If you have a good location for a Rachel Zenzinger yard sign, please send an email to [email protected]. You could have a big impact on this campaign if you would ask friends and neighbors in District 19 if they would be willing to "host" a sign. Please arrange the authorization for us, give us the address, and we will deliver! We also need authorized locations for large (4x6) signs at high-traffic sites.

Donations

Every important political campaign these days requires significant funding, and this one is no exception. We need to find a way to pay for brochures, direct mail pieces, advertisements and other tools to help make voters aware of their choices. Please consider making any level of contribution to the "Rachel Zenzinger for Colorado" campaign, and help me get elected in 2016.

Information for Donors

Under Colorado campaign finance law, contributions to candidates from individuals, sole proprietorships, LLPs, LLCs, and state PACs are limited to $400 per election cycle. Contributions from Small Donor Committees are limited to $4,500 per election cycle. Contributions from corporations, labor unions, foreign governments, and non-U.S. citizens are prohibited. Campaign finance law also requires us to provide information about all contributors' occupations, and their employers. Please be specific when you supply that information, which must accompany all donations. If you are retired or unemployed, please so indicate. Please note that political campaign contributions are not tax-deductible. Thank you!
