Happy Mothering Day!
This Sunday we will consider astonishing forgiveness, the kind that surprises, inspires, and transforms us. The story of Saul, who was renamed Paul (the apostle) will guide us, and remind us of other stories of forgiveness in our own lives. It is also Mother's and mothering day this Sunday, and we will honor those who celebrate. Mother figures so often teach us the surprising power of forgiveness, asking with so much else. Looking forward to our time together.
Blessings,
Jessica

Welcome to A Special Celebration!
The people of First Church San Diego stepped up to the challenge of temporarily housing some of our Ukrainian brothers and sisters fleeing their war-torn communities! It was a heart-breaking and inspiring ministry for one holy week. We heard stories, made connections, served faithfully, and were blessed richly.

New Summer Book Study
"The Color of Compromise"
Sundays, June 12 - July 17 | 11:15 - 12:15 | OB Campus and via Zoom
Please join Pastor Jessica for a 6-week book study on Jemar Tisby's book "The Color of Compromise: The Truth About the American Church's Complicity in Racism." Each participant is asked to obtain a copy of the book, and we will gather in a both/and format in the Community Room on the OB campus, or via Zoom. Each week, we will discuss a couple of chapters from the book, and reflect on our call as Christians to be about the work of anti-racism. Looking forward to deepening our understanding of history with Tisby's guidance, repenting of our own complicity, and growing in faith and justice together.
You can take part in this study in person or by Zoom.

Visit to the Border Church
Sunday, June 12 | 10:30 AM - 6:30 PM | Cost: $20 | Limit to 22 participants | Learn more
First Church has been supporting the work of Border Church for a few years. Now that COVID has subsided, the Global Missions Task Force is planning a day trip to visit the church in Friendship Park, Playas - just west of Tijuana. We will carpool from the Mission Valley Campus to the US side of the border and then walk across the bridge to the Mexican side where FUMCSD's old bus, which was donated to Border Church, will pick us up and drive us to Friendship Park.
At 1 PM we will join the binational worship service, and Rev. John Fanestil will be the pastor on the U.S. side. Following the service, Via International will serve a meal and you will have time to learn more about Border Church and Friendship Park, look at the "wall" and all the paintings on the fence and wander around before we head back. Note that passport and proof of vaccination is required crossing the border back into the US.
