The Giving Grocery exists because of its volunteers, who contribute nearly 4,000 hours of their time every year so that South High School students and their families can have access to nutritious food and personal care. Our volunteers are South parents, students, neighbors, and friends, and we are grateful for them this National Volunteer Week and always!

Giving Grocery Receives HFDK Newcomer Micro-grant

We are pleased to announce that we have been awarded a $50,000 grant from Healthy Food for Denver’s Kids Initiative through the Denver Department of Public Health & Environment. This micro-grant is specifically focused on addressing food insecurity in newcomer youth and allows us to purchase additional fresh and culturally significant food for South students to meet the increasing need. Since the launch of HFDK in 2019, approximately $85 million has been awarded to more than 100 organizations that include non-profits, public schools or affiliates of Denver Public Schools, and city agencies. We are thankful to Denver voters and HFDK for supporting Giving Grocery and food security for youth throughout Denver.

Thank you again to Denver City Councilman Paul Kashmann and his staff! In addition to providing generous financial support and volunteering in the Giving Grocery, they hosted us last week at their District 6 Academy in the Community to engage with Denver residents and increase awareness of our program.

Thank you to JEWISHcolorado Women's Philanthropy! As part of their Dignity Grows effort, they will be hosting a packing party at the Giving Grocery next month to prepare over 200 totes full of much-needed

hygiene supplies for our students.

FOUNDATIONS AND PARTNERS:

The Giving Grocery will be closed for South's Summer Break after our May 22 distribution, returning August 21. If you would like to reach out over the summer, please do so, as our team will still be hard at work fundraising and preparing for next school year!
