Happy New Year!

We are so glad to welcome our students and staff back to campuses this week. I'm grateful to our team of dedicated employees who create welcoming educational spaces for our scholars.

At an August 6th special meeting, the board of education unanimously adopted a resolution ordering a parcel tax measure to be placed on the ballot for the November 5, 2024 general election. This parcel tax, Measure O, is a continuation of Measure K, passed by voters in November 2018.

November 2024 Measure O is not a new tax. There will be no increase in tax. The measure is simply a continuation of the parcel tax currently in place of $189 per year through 2034.

Measure K currently provides about $2.4 million a year to our schools. This revenue sustains funding for over 30 positions benefitting our students through smaller classroom size and many academic and extracurricular programs. This revenue is extremely important to our students and community.

Join me in supporting the continuation of funding our schools: ✅YES to Measure O

Join me for complimentary (to you) snacks from local small businesses (while supplies last) on Saturday, August 24 at Fiesta La Ballona at Veterans Park, Culver City

Snack & Chat hours & locations:

10a-12p Culver City Democratic Club booth

12-2p Culver City Unified Schools booth

We could discuss topics like:

* YES to Measure O, continuing the great work of 2018 Measure K

* Back to school

* Facilities

Or we can just snack, hang, take selfies and relax in the shade!

Riding your 🚲 to the Bike Culver City valet on Culver Blvd is the easiest way to get to the event.

Don't forget your reusable water bottle, there's usually cool refill stations at the park.

I'm looking forward to connecting with you!

On Sunday, August 11th, I announced my endorsement of La Ballona Elementary parent and 🔗immigrant advocate Sameen Ahmadnia 🔗watch my endorsement announcement. Her platform to improve Access, Wellness, and Achievement for our students will resonate with voters. That same day, Culver City Democratic Club (CCDC) held a Culver City School Board forum on Zoom 🔗watch the recording. That week, she won the Westside Young Dems endorsement and was the only candidate to win the endorsement of CCDC for Culver City school board.

Despite starting her campaign this month, Sameen was poised and prepared at her first campaign forum. She demonstrated she has the determination and compassion to win this election. Sameen is exactly what Culver City needs in our school leadership and will continue the progress we’ve made the last 2 years since I joined the board. Join me in supporting Team Sameen at her Sept. 2nd 🔗campaign kick-off.
