Our Mission: Repairing Homes, Revitalizing Communities and Rebuilding Lives
January 2021
A Note From Our Executive Director
Happy New Year, Everyone!

As I reflect on the past year, I am so grateful to our many supporters who make our work possible. Since our fiscal year started on July 1, 2020, we have provided 82 neighbors in need with critical home repairs, allowing them to remain safe and healthy at home during these challenging times. I’d like to give a special thank you to all of you who gave during our end of year fundraising appeal. With your help, we are now poised to serve even more vulnerable homeowners in 2021.

At RTMC, we believe that having a place to live that is safe and accessible is a critical need, and without such a place, people’s physical and mental health can often be adversely impacted. With 50% of Montgomery County homes built more than 30 years ago, and 70% of these homes in disrepair, we are more determined than ever to meet our goal to provide critical home repairs to 178 homeowners this fiscal year. Thank you to all who help to make our vision of providing a safe and healthy home for everyone possible.
All the best,
Maury Peterson Signature

Welcome New AmeriCorps Member, Kristen Miller!
We are so excited to introduce Kristen Miller to our team! Kristen recently graduated from the University of Arizona with a Master of Arts in Middle Eastern and North African Studies. She has experience volunteering with the Appalachia Service Project (home repairs in Central Appalachia), as well as a prior AmeriCorps term with the International Rescue Committee in Tucson, AZ. Kristen will be helping coordinate our homeowners and contractors during the assessment and repair phase of our program. She will also be working to reestablish our volunteer handyman services and help to manage volunteer projects when they start back up. Kristen is the second AmeriCorps member on our team, alongside Joni Keaton.
We can’t wait to see what this team will accomplish in the new year!
A Life-Changing Home Repair for Our Neighbor, Ms. S!
RTMC was delighted to provide our neighbor Ms. S with indoor plumbing for the first time in nearly 50 years! She will no doubt enjoy her new bathroom for many years to come.
“The work done by RTMC was excellent and so helpful to me to be able to live a better and longer life. I’ll be safer now because you made it so easy for me to access the toilet and shower...
I will never stop being thankful to RTMC for the rest of my life. You are all so kind. That Bob fella was wonderful.”
- Ms. S
Special thanks to Bob Goff of Goff Properties and Home Depot Frederick for your tremendous effort to make these life-changing repairs possible.
Thank You Home Depot Frederick!
Jose Montes de Oca, Manager of the Home Depot Frederick, presented a generous $1,000 Home Depot donation for the life-changing bathroom construction. We love Home Depot Frederick thank you for leading by example to help those most in need!
Spotlight on a [Re]Builder: Bob King
RTMC is grateful to the long-time support of Bob King, former RTMC Board President and longtime volunteer, donor and golf committee chair. Bob has been instrumental to RTMC’s success in so many ways. We asked Bob why our mission is important to him.
Here’s what he had to say:

“Safe and healthy housing is at the center of so much of what impacts peoples' everyday lives. It is not only an important health factor (not having mold in a house, for example), but can be essential to mental wellbeing, as unhealthy living space can cause undue stress and family strife. In addition, much of our work has been to make homes more accessible to the owners' and their families and it is such a joy to be able to see someone be able to leave their house easily for the first time in a long time.

During the time of covid, when state and local officials have been telling us to stay home where it is safer, the response must be ‘you can't be safer at home if you aren't safe at home to begin with.’ Our work is needed more than ever.”

Homeowners Can Now Apply Online
We’re excited to announce that our service application is now available online! We’ve made it easier than ever for income-qualifying homeowners to apply to receive critical home repairs. We will continue to assess our application process to ensure that it’s accessible to those who need it most. View the application.
Partnership with Adventist HealthCare
RTMC is excited to announce our renewed partnership with Adventist HealthCare in 2021! RTMC and Adventist HealthCare have partnered together for the past 15 years to provide free accessibility modifications and repairs in the homes of vulnerable seniors, veterans and people with disabilities in Montgomery County. We are extremely grateful to Adventist HealthCare for their continued support and look forward to making our community a better place through this partnership. RTMC also greatly benefits from the wise counsel of RTMC Board Member, Andra Henning, who serves as Director of Professional Development and Clinical Education Therapy at Adventist HealthCare.
