Isle of Wight County Awarded Broadband Grant
Isle of Wight County, Franklin Southampton Economic Development and the City of Suffolk, along with their partners, Hampton Roads Planning District Commission and Charter Communications, were awarded grant funds of just over $21 million to build out fiber broadband in Isle of Wight County, Southampton County and the City of Suffolk. This fund is referred to as the Virginia Telecommunication Initiative (VATI) and resources from the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) are being utilized. The project will build fiber broadband to 12,223 unserved locations and achieve universal coverage within the three communities. READ FULL PRESS RELEASE

6th Annual Job Fair- January 26, 2022

The Tidewater News, along with local and regional partners, will hold its 6th Annual Job Fair on Wednesday, January 26, 2022 from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the Paul D. Camp Community College Workforce Development Center in Franklin. This event is FREE and open to all job seekers. Isle of Wight County Economic Development is proud to continue its sponsorship of this important community event.

Hamtown Mercantile Seeks Local Artisans & Merchants
The Hamtown Mercantile is coming to 223 Main Street in Smithfield in Spring 2022 and will be filled with a wild range of small-batch goods and gifts created by LOCAL Virginia artisans and merchants! The mercantile wants to fill up boutique spaces and is looking for women's apparel, children's boutiques, men's boutiques, knives, military memorabilia, records, awesome vintage finds, leather goods, spices, honey, salsas, & local grocery, apothecary, stationery, jewelry, modern pottery, sports memorabilia, handmade and refinished furniture and other decor.
