Stick Your Landing
On January 1st of each year James, my son, and I go down to the beach to just be thankful for the last year and look forward to the year coming. This year when we arrived at the shore he immediately took his shoes and socks off and began running off of the little bank of sand. He did this about 50 times with just as much joy and vigor as the time before. To begin he backed up as far as possible, then would start pumping his arms running as fast as possible and grunting as if the sounds that he was making would propel him further in the air. He would then leap as high as possible in the air. Once he landed there was laughter and joy as he rolled in the sand with such a relief that he finially landed. The quietest part of this process was the point that is captured in this picture, the middle or the highest point. There is a feeling of silence, uncertanity and weightlessness that is at this point. Perhaps it is at this point that he had the greatest concentration because he had the least amount of control.
It is at this point that I thought of our Raider community. We are in the middle of the school year. You have worked really hard to get to this point. We are at our highest point, the middle of our leap in the school year. You are encouraged to continue to focus and work hard so that you can land at a place at the end of the school year of joy and laughter. When someone says to "Stick your Landing", they mean to acommplish (finish) an extrordinary feat successfully. We all want you to look back on this school year in May and be proud of what you have done and how far you have come academically. Through all of the challenges that you may have faced this year, Stick Your Landing!!
If you need some time to refocus, then please know there are Virtual Calming Rooms that you can use. Please click this link to access them: Virtual Calming Rooms.
You can do this Raiders!!
