2016, Year in Review!
Good bye 2016, hello 2017! We just wrapped up a tremendous year at KHS thanks to your support. We’ve been crunching numbers and cleaning our data, and it looks like another record-breaking year of lifesaving: 1,107 animals in foster care, 5,594 animals adopted, 687 lost animals reunited with their families, 5,238 animals spayed/neutered, and 2,219 at-risk pets animals saved through our Rescue Me program.Keep your eyes peeled for our 2016 Annual Report coming out in April to see our final stats! With your help we have changed the lives of so many people and pets, thank you!
Help KHS Help Others
For the sixth year in a row, Kitsap Humane Society is participating in Project Connect on January 25 at The Salvation Army in Bremerton. This vital event provides resources and services to the low-income and homeless community.
Last year at Project Connect, KHS handed out more than 1,000 pounds of free pet food and provided free Rabies vaccines to more than 30 pets. Other giveaways included flea treatment, collars and leashes. Donations to Kitsap Humane Society (both monetary and in-kind) make community partnerships like Project Connect possible for the shelter to participate in. These donations also help us help pets of low-income families year-round. Through our Pet Food Pantry program, KHS provides pet food to about 40 families/pet owners every month.
You can help us support pets of local needy families by donating in-kind items and pet food.
Winter Pet Safety Tips!

It’s been an especially cold winter in Kitsap so far this year, so it’s more important than ever to make sure your pets are safe and comfortable. During cold weather and snow it’s important to keep your pets indoors, and give outside animals like livestock or feral cats access to warm, dry places. If your pets do go outside, make sure that you’ve got pet-safe deicer out and check your pet’s paws for ice. Your pet’s age, health and physical characteristics can have a big impact on their ability to tolerate cold and stay comfortable and safe. Adorable Adoptable
Oliver – A Charming Senior

Oliver is a charming senior looking for a loving retirement home. Oliver may be old, but he is still full of life and has plenty of play and love left in him. Oliver LOVES toys of all kinds. He thinks Kongs are fun to chew on, he will chase and drag a rope toy around for ages, and can dissect a tennis ball in no time.

Volunteer Spotlight
Chelsea Esterline

This month’s volunteer spotlight is on Chelsea! Chelsea joined our volunteer team just over a year ago, and has proven invaluable during that time! Starting out as a dog walker, Chelsea has worked her way to becoming a Canine Lead Volunteer- handling our most shy or fearful dogs, as well as those with specific behavioral needs. In addition to her time as a dog walker, Chelsea also volunteers multiple days each week helping with our laundry and dishes. Most recently, Chelsea has joined our transfer team! She assists with driving to and from the airport to pick up dogs, as well as with greeting large transfers of dogs when they arrive at the shelter. We are so grateful for all the hard work and dedication Chelsea has given to KHS!

Community Spotlight
Raise a glass for our community partners!

We would like to thank our 2016 Pints for Pets partners for hosting NUMEROUS successful Pints for Pets events last year! The events and outreach team here at KHS has had an awesome time getting to know each and every one of you as you’ve attended one, or multiple, Pints for Pets events. We are BLOWN AWAY by the support of our community! Without the support of our Pints for Pets partners, and the love and support of community members like you, we wouldn’t be able to continue the lifesaving work we do on a daily basis here at KHS.
