Happy New Year Columbus Academy Families!
Welcome to the second semester of 2019-20 and the special opportunity to use the brand new athletic facilities our campus now offers.
Starting January 6, our first day back, we will open our new fieldhouse -- a three-court space for basketball (with 18 drop-down backboards), tennis and volleyball as well as a climbing wall and netting for indoor training by baseball, golf, lacrosse and more. Designed as an indestructible play area, the fieldhouse will offer PE classes, youth sports and varsity athletics the practice facilities we have needed to run the kind of youth programming and high-level training that will help us continue to encourage healthy fitness while building our sports programs.
In addition to the fieldhouse, we have created excellent areas for athletic training and wellness as well as a roomy strength and conditioning space. Locker rooms have been added and renovated as well so that students have the facilities that best meet their needs.
None of these changes could have been possible without the special care and forethought of a few donors who believe now is the time that our school needs to make these bold steps in facilities improvement. One steward in particular, Matt Walter '87, P'18 '20 '22, expressed trust in the school and an enthusiasm for its continued growth and success by urging us to consider what we could and should provide students athletically. Led by his interest and support, we now have these wonderful spaces.
All families will have a chance to see these newest additions for themselves at our Fieldhouse Family Night from 5:00-7:00 p.m. on January 25 prior to that Saturday evening's varsity boys basketball home game against Bexley. We are inviting all parents, students and alumni to shoot some hoops, try the climbing wall and participate in other fun activities and prizes. The only price of admission that night is the right footwear -- athletic shoes with non-marking soles!
With noticeable improvements to classrooms and common areas in recent years, the reopening of our beautifully renovated Schoedinger Theatre in the fall and now these new athletic areas, we are seeing the school's strategic vision coming to life. We are fully dedicated to the development of our young scholars, artists and athletes while providing them places to spread out, to breathe, and to absorb learning in every direction, in every moment.
Thank you for the continued investment of your children in our school,
