January 2024

Message from the President by Charli Thyne

A new year, a renewed commitment to America

I am honored and humbled to have been elected President of Moore Republican Women. This organization has always been such a strong force for good, and we should all be proud to be part of it. MRW is dedicated to leading North Carolina in influence and being a positive factor in the national and state GOPs, while improving our community through caring projects.

The coming election year will be a huge challenge.

Each of us must do everything we can to elect conservatives to office – both here in Moore County, across North Carolina and in Washington, D.C. Four years of Joe Biden have come close to making our country unrecognizable, and the outlook seems bleak – but we here at MRW will take a very active part in the grassroots battle to take America back!

It's important to get involved!

Whether you’re a candidate for office, a working mother, an active volunteer, a retiree or a homebound senior, there are important actions you can take to make this happen. MRW will help you find ways to make a difference. Good people cannot just look on, shake their heads, and do nothing. It’s better to light a single candle than to curse the darkness.

So let’s light that candle, preserve our great country, and fight the good fight together!

And may 2024 prove to be the turning point back to sanity in America.

Charli

Still time to RSVP for January 10 Luncheon

Deadline to RSVP: Wednesday, January 3

Guest speakers include Dale Folwell, candidate for NC Governor; Hal Weatherman, candidate for Lt. Governor; Christine Villaverde, candidate for NC Secretary of State; and more!

Collection: Bring in snacks to be included in gift baskets to Moore County law enforcement officers. We love our Blue!

This Collection will be our signature project to submit to the National Federation of Republican Women, so the more snacks, the better! We thank you for your generosity. Also, volunteers are needed to create the gift baskets after the luncheon at GOP HQ, and to deliver them to various sites. Let's make this project something we can be proud of! Questions: Ask Lou Ellen Runyan.

2024 primaries: What you need to know

Key primary dates

  • Monday, January 15: 2024 Primary Ballots out and mail-in absentee voting starts
  • Thursday, February 15: 2024 Primary Early Voting Starts
  • Tuesday, March 5: 2024 Primary Election

These are the candidates

The deadline for filing for election has passed, and the list of the candidates is below.

Because they are unopposed in this election, we congratulate Judge Skipper Creed, Judge Steve Bibey, and Yohan Namkong (who will be our newest judge). We also send congratulations to Mike Hardin for DA and Nick Picerno for District Commissioner! These men are guaranteed to win in November

But there will still be many hard-fought contests between Republican candidates for various positions, including the top ones for Governor, Lt. Governor and Attorney General. So you have decisions to make!

Finally, here is additional information from the Carolina Journal about the Presidential candidates who will be on the ballot.

Poll worker training

Still concerned about election integrity in NC? We should all stay alert!

One way to make a difference is to become a Poll Observer. In past elections, there have been far more Democrat poll observers than Republican, even in Moore County. So here's your opportunity to do something positive and useful:

MRW honors veterans with Wreaths Across America

On December 16, members of MRW joined thousands of other Americans across the country to lay memorial wreaths on the graves of veterans. We visited the Seven Lakes cemetery to do our part (pictures below).

Overall, MRW members purchased more than 350 wreaths, which decorated veterans' graves at the Seven Lakes site and in the Sandhill Veterans Cemetery in Fayetteville over the Christmas holidays.

Thank you to all who donated wreaths and helped honor our country's brave veterans!

Totals from last month's Ways & Means

Here's what you contributed to MRW's coffer's at the Holiday Brunch:

Basket Raffle - $430. Many thanks to Patsy Peele and Lynn Donelly for creating the Mystery Box, and to Patty Breslin for her donation of the darling "pet quilt." Pauline Bruno won the items.

Jewelry - $148. Can't get enough patriotic items!

Split the Pot - $180. JoJo Egitto won $90.

Thanks so much to everyone who supports these efforts!
