MTY can be used to impact pain and improve function in any condition.

The dangers and health risks associated with black plastic

December 16, 2024

Steve Inskeep

New research suggests that black plastic is associated with health risks. Researchers found toxic flame retardants in many black plastic household goods.

Megan Liu is with the advocacy group Toxic-Free Future. She cowrote a study published in the journal Chemosphere that found toxic flame retardants in many black plastic household goods.

The sushi tray that we tested had the highest level of deca-BDE, at a level of 11,900 parts per million. And that's really surprising because deca-BDE is the chemical that has been banned in the United States and is associated with cancer.

The chemicals show up in black plastic because that material is often made from recycled electronics, like TVs and computers, which are made with flame retardants.

These highly hazardous, cancer-causing chemicals shouldn't even be in the products that touch our food or touch our kids' mouths because there are safer alternatives.

Try to replace kitchen utensils with stainless steel and wood kitchen utensils. Also shift to using glass containers instead of plastic containers to store food.

Why Sugar Substitutes Are Not The Answer

Product We Are Loving Right Now

Not to add to your list of things to keep you up at night, but the floss you are currently using is probably made of plastic and coated with PFAS (forever chemicals) potentially adding to your body's chemical load.

Fortunatly, we have a solution. Try this alternative, floss made of Silk instead of plastic.

SOFO HoHo Another Great Year!

SOFO had another successful HoHo toy drive this year. We were able to provide over $2500 in toys to our local elementary schools along the Forest Drive corridor to make Christmas a little brighter for those less fortunate in our community.

Extra bonus this year was the return of our HoHo event with Santa at Firestation #8 on Bay Ridge Road.

HUGE thank you to Lorie Stout from Stoutgear as well as all of your contributions and generosity in making this possible again this year!

Collection for Bates Middle School

One. will be Collecting for Month of January

Wiley H Bates middle school is a uniform school located in Annapolis and we are looking for gently used or new clothing to refill our clothing closet. The clothing helps our students who are in need and cannot afford uniforms for the week and for students who are out of uniform or have an accident during the school day. Attached is our uniform policy and below are the bottom sizes that we need the most. Harder to determine the boys sizes as they transfer over to men sizes with waist and length. With the cold weather here we are also looking for our uniform compliant non-hooded sweatshirts in solid colors of black and grey, along with new gloves, hats and socks.

Bottoms must be khaki or navy blue (no leggings or jeans)

Girl sizes 12-18

Woman sizes 2-16

Boy sizes 12-20

Men sizes waist 28-34
