Hello Everyone,
As the year comes to a close, I’m reflecting on what we’ve experienced together and accomplished as a Village. When I say “we,” I mean not just Village administration, but volunteer board and committee members, staff, and elected officials working together.
Tell someone you live in Tarrytown and the response is often, “I love Tarrytown”—its downtown, diversity, views, wooded paths, and the RiverWalk. We are blessed with good bones, but the reputation of the Village emanates from the heart, hands, and values of the people who care for and steward these resources.
The year 2025 began with uncertainty. We navigated changing federal and state policies, shifting timelines, and challenges from immigration policy changes. While these laws are beyond our local control, our community is working to ensure immigrant neighbors feel welcome, safe and supported.
Public health, safety and security for all is always a priority. I am grateful for the steadfast team providing our essential services: the Tarrytown Police Department, Volunteer Fire Department, Volunteer Ambulance Corps, and Department of Public Works.
Despite the challenges, Tarrytown continues to move forward. Over the past four years, the Village secured millions in grants for infrastructure, parks, and sustainability projects. This year, many long-planned projects came to life. After years of advocacy, we made progress on pedestrian safety along Route 9. Residents provided input on the NYS Route 9 Complete Streets Project. We also worked with community members to develop a Safe Streets for All action plan which will focus effort and investment on making our community safer for walkers and bikers.
Community input guided our work throughout 2025. Residents participated in public workshops on upcoming projects, including the redesign of Lagana Park. These conversations shaped the plan, and we look forward to reopening the park in 2026.
Supporting housing stability and thoughtful economic development remained priorities. Plans for redeveloping underused areas were referred to the Planning Board. The Board of Trustees adopted New York State’s Good Cause Eviction Law to protect tenants, while zoning changes made it easier for homeowners to improve their properties. In partnership with Sleepy Hollow, we launched Project MOVER, a shared e-bike program that was very successful.
Sustainability remains a core value for our Village. From energy-efficient infrastructure to waste reduction and resilient public spaces, we aim to balance today’s needs with tomorrow’s responsibilities.
Once again, Tarrytown was recognized as having the Best Main Street in Westchester. Our Halloween Parade remains a regional sensation. Village staff, businesses, and community partners worked together to coordinate events and manage the season effectively. Looking ahead, in November 2026, Tarrytown will host the Revolutionary Westchester 250th anniversary event, an important milestone for our community and our nation. At the same time, we continue to offer many programs for residents, keeping community connection at the heart of all we do.
As we welcome the New Year, I wish you peace, good health, and the comfort of a strong community. It is an honor to serve as your Mayor, and I look forward to 2026 and all we will accomplish together.
