Happy New Year
2022!

As the ball drops in Times Square tonight, we will welcome a new year and say goodbye to 2021! I wish you health, peace, joy, and happiness in the New Year ahead.
Although the New Years Eve celebration in Times Square will be scaled back again this year,[1] you can find ways to enjoy the celebration here. Mayor-elect Eric Adams will also be sworn in as the City's 110th mayor at the ceremony.
However you celebrate the ringing in of 2022, stay safe! And, don't forget to get a cup of Soup Joumou at the participating restaurants below, courtesy of Little Haiti BK!

LITTLE HAITI ANNUAL CELEBRATION OF HAITIAN INDEPENDENCE DAY
|
|
Haiti declared independence on January 1, 1804. We celebrate Haiti's Independence Day because it commemorates the nation gaining independence 218 years ago, following the first successful Black slave revolt in the western hemisphere.
This slave abolition movement has paved the way to freedom for countless people in the Caribbean and South America. Haiti’s independence also strengthened and expanded the United States, easing negotiations for the Louisiana Purchase from the French. Today, we pay homage to the many Black revolutionaries such as Toussaint L'Ouverture, Jean Jacques Dessalines, Dutty Boukman, Henri Christophe, Catherine Flon and others, who led the abolitionist movement.
This day will always be celebrated, worldwide, for generations to come, because of its significance for freedom and sovereignty. On a personal note, it is important to me as I am the great-great-great-great granddaughter of Jean Jacques Dessalines.
Little Haiti BK in partnership with the offices of Assemblymember Rodneyse Bichotte Hermelyn and Council Member Farah N. Louis are hosting a 3rd annual celebration of Haiti's Independence Day on January 1, 2022 from 10AM-3PM to mark the joyous day. Join us in person or virtually at https://lhbk.org/freedomsoup. Details are above!
