Greetings and Håfa Adai,
Happy New Year, StayWell Members!
As the adage goes: “New year, new me.” A brand-new year rings in fireworks, fresh beginnings, and clean slates—which brings to mind: New Year’s resolutions. Creating positive changes in your life and making goals are important. But just as important as making them are keeping them. We’ve compiled a few tips on creating and keeping your goals along with a list of resolutions.
Create an achievable and focused resolution
Oftentimes, we make resolutions that can be too broad or we create too many resolutions. Trying to affect change all at once won’t work. Instead, make it a small and doable goal. You can think of the acronym S.M.A.R.T (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant and Time-Bound) as you create your resolutions.
Write Your Goals and Make a Plan
Now that you’ve made your resolutions, write them down! Keep them where you can see them on a daily basis—on your office desk or in your wallet. Writing down goals makes them more concrete. With your goals written down, make plans to achieve them. For example, if your resolution is to “drink more water,” think about little ways to reach that goal. Examples would be to infuse your water with ingredients you like, keep a water bottle on you at all times, or download an app to keep track of how much water you drink.
Reward Yourself
Along the way, you may slip up—but that’s okay! The important thing is to get up and get back on track. Rewards—however small they may be—can be a boost of encouragement to keep you going. Plan small awards after reaching a milestone in your resolution.
Here are a few examples of resolutions on our list:
- Eat more mindfully during meals by turning off the TV
- Save money by bringing in lunch to work
- Venture and try new things around the island
