Welcome Interim Police Chief Lee!

Tony Lee takes on the role of Interim Police Chief following Chief Schindler's retirement. He will serve as interim chief until the next permanent chief is appointed.


As Interim Chief, Lee will oversee the Ventura Police Department, with over 250 sworn officers, staff, and volunteers. The department includes Patrol Operations, a Task Force for homeless outreach, the K9 and Traffic Units, Dispatch, Investigations, Crime Analysis, School Resource Officers, Records, and Training. Welcome, Tony!

Progress at Westpark Skatepark

Construction on the Westpark Skatepark Expansion Project began in October and is on track for completion by spring 2025. Stay tuned for details about its grand opening!


This project is possible thanks to a $1.9 million grant from the Proposition 68 Statewide Park Development and Community Revitalization Program, a $10,000 fundraising effort by our local skate community, and $322,000 from Fund 18 – Parks & Recreation Improvements.

Swing into spring at Buenaventura

The Buenaventura Golf Course has been closed since 2023 because of major storm damage and flooding. While the City works with FEMA and insurance to create a new design to reduce future flooding risks, a temporary 9-hole course is being prepared for the community to enjoy. The 9-hole course is expected to open in spring 2025!

Attention: volunteers needed

The Ventura County Continuum of Care is looking for volunteers to assist with the 2025 Homeless Point In Time Count on Wednesday, January 22, 2025.


An accurate count helps secure funding for local homeless shelters, housing programs, rental assistance, street outreach, and other services.

King Tides event January 13

Join the City and local partners on Monday, January 13, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the Ventura Promenade (750 E Harbor Blvd) to view the king tides phenomenon and learn about ocean health and coastal erosion.

Hazardous waste drop-off

Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) Events are held on the third Saturday of each month. City of Ventura residents and small businesses are invited to register for an appointment time to drop off their hazardous materials on Saturday, January 18. HHW materials pose a serious threat to human, plant and animal life, and it is illegal to place them in the trash, dump them on the ground or pour down the storm drain.

The Corporate Games is more than friendly competition—it's a chance to invest in your team, network with other businesses, strengthen workplace bonds, and showcase your company pride.


Registration is open now through February 14. Events include everything from dodgeball and volleyball to table games and tug-of-war. The Games will take place March 22 – May 3 on weekends or weekdays after regular business hours.
