Streamlining the RMA Process
At a recent meeting, the Ventura County Board of Supervisors unanimously voted to move forward with major zoning and permitting reforms, directing staff to begin work on streamlining processes within the County’s Resource Management Agency (RMA).
This action represents a step toward addressing long-standing concerns from residents, homeowners, and the business community about delays, complexity, and lack of clarity in the County’s permitting system. The approved reforms will focus on simplifying permit types and review pathways, reducing duplicative reviews between zoning and building divisions, modernizing outdated zoning standards and procedures, clarifying application requirements and timelines, and improving coordination and communication throughout the permitting process.
As part of this effort, staff will also evaluate opportunities to move certain approvals from discretionary to ministerial review where appropriate. This change has the potential to reduce unnecessary delays while still maintaining public safety, environmental protections, and community standards.
Some improvements will begin immediately, while others that require ordinance changes or additional analysis will return to the Board for consideration in 2026 as part of the Planning Division’s multi-year work plan.
This initiative reflects the Board’s commitment to efficient, transparent, and responsive local government, ensuring Ventura County’s permitting process better serves our communities while supporting responsible growth. Updates will continue to be shared as this work moves forward.
| | | Forever Found recently hosted its annual gala in support of its mission to bring hope and healing to children who have been rescued from trafficking and exploitation. 2025 CoLAB

A great evening was spent at the 2025 Ventura County CoLAB Annual Meeting, connecting with community partners and leaders from across Ventura County. Ventura County CoLAB plays an important role in supporting our local economy by bringing together businesses, education, workforce development, and public agencies to strengthen career pathways and prepare our workforce for the future. | | | Mountain View Food Waste Project | |
Agromin’s new Mountain View Food Waste Processing Facility in Oxnard officially opened with a ribbon cutting, marking an important milestone for Ventura County’s sustainability efforts. This state-of-the-art facility will help the County earn critical diversion credits under SB 1383 by processing food waste and other organic materials that would otherwise end up in landfills.
By converting organic waste into compost, fertilizer, and other beneficial products, the facility supports local agriculture, reduces greenhouse gas emissions, and strengthens the County’s ability to meet state-mandated organic waste diversion requirements. Congratulations to Agromin, E.J. Harrison & Sons, and all partners involved in bringing this innovative project to fruition.

Moorpark Country Days Parade and Fair
The Moorpark Country Days Parade and Fair is a beloved hometown tradition and one of the most anticipated events of the year. Connecting with the community while participating in the parade and hosting a booth is my favorite part of the event. A special thank you to the Rudy Perez Jr. Memorial Foundation for putting on such an amazing event which captures what makes Moorpark such a special place to call home.

Food Share Day of Service
I volunteered at Food Share’s Day of Service to support families facing food insecurity across Ventura County. During the event, 1,350 bags of food were packed and prepared for distribution to local pantries, shelters, and community partners. Food Share plays a vital role in the county by distributing millions of pounds of food each year, ensuring that individuals, seniors, and families have access to nutritious meals. Events like this highlight the impact of working together to support neighbors in need.
| | | 2025 Annual Fallen Firefighter Memorial | It was an honor to speak at the 2025 Annual Fallen Firefighter Memorial. This was a powerful moment of reflection and gratitude. Surrounded by firefighters, families, and community members, the memorial served as a reminder that each name engraved in stone represents a life defined by courage, compassion, and selfless service. These men and women answered the call to protect others, often at great personal sacrifice, and their legacy continues to shape the strength and spirit of our community. As we honor those who have fallen and those who continue to serve, this memorial reminds us to never take their sacrifice for granted and to carry forward their commitment to service, courage, and kindness. | | | | Connor Hules Eagle Court of Honor | I was honored to attend Connor Hules’ Eagle Court of Honor with Troop 622. Connor’s Eagle Scout project benefitted the Chabad Ranch in Moorpark, where he led the construction of a supply and storage shed to help the community better host events and summer and winter camps for kids. What was planned as a simple project quickly grew in scope, taking nine volunteer days to complete, but Connor’s leadership, dedication, and hard work made it a success. Congratulations, Connor, on your impressive accomplishment and for making a lasting impact in our community! | | | Introduction Meeting with Probation | A tour of Williams Place, the County of Ventura Probation Agency’s juvenile field office, provided an opportunity to see recent improvements to the facility and learn more about the programs supporting youth rehabilitation and public safety. The visit with Probation Chief Miller highlighted ongoing efforts to create safe, supportive spaces that help young people succeed. | | | | |
The Free Clinic of Simi Valley Run
The Free Clinic of Simi Valley hosted the Fredrick Michael Gibson Depression Awareness & Suicide Prevention Run, and it was inspiring to see so many community members come together for an important cause. Runners of all ages participated, and volunteers helped ensure the event ran smoothly. I volunteered at water and Gatorade stations along the route to keep the runners hydrated. Events like this raise awareness about mental health, provide vital resources, and remind us of the power of community support. Thank you to everyone who joined in, whether by running, volunteering, or cheering on participants, your involvement in your community makes a difference!

Veteran's Day Flag Display & Photo Exhibit Reception
Ventura County proudly hosted its first Veterans Tribute and Photo Exhibit, bringing together County employees, their families, and community members for a meaningful evening of recognition and gratitude. At the event I honored County employees and exhibition participants who have served or are currently serving in the United States Armed Forces.
The evening began with the Presentation of the Colors by the Vietnam Veterans of Ventura County Color Guard. Attendees took time to reflect on the extraordinary service and sacrifice of veterans across generations, those who served decades ago, those currently serving, and the families who support them.
Ventura County is home to many veterans within its workforce, individuals who continue their commitment to service by bringing the same dedication, integrity, and sense of duty from their military careers into public service. The tribute and photo exhibit served as a reminder of the impact veterans have not only on national security, but also on local government and community life.

Daughters of the American Revolution
I had the pleasure of speaking to the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) about the vital role of a county supervisor and how our work directly impacts the lives of Ventura County residents. It was an engaging conversation about the responsibilities of the Board of Supervisors, from overseeing public services and budgets to supporting community programs and local initiatives.
I shared insight into how the Board balances priorities across health, safety, infrastructure, and community well-being, and highlighted how residents can stay informed and involved in local government. The discussion underscored the importance of civic engagement and the ways our county office works to serve every district effectively.
Thank you to the DAR members for hosting me and for their commitment to civic education and community involvement. Conversations like these remind us how critical it is to connect with residents, share information, and encourage participation in shaping the future of Ventura County.

Marine Corps 250th Birthday Ball
I had the privilege of attending the Marine Corps 250th Birthday Ball at the Reagan Library. The evening was filled with camaraderie, and recognition of the brave men and women who serve our country in the U.S. Marine Corps.
A particularly moving part of the celebration was the empty table set in honor of our fallen, missing, and imprisoned service members. The table was draped with a white cloth, symbolizing the purity of their intent, and a single red rose represented love and sacrifice. A slice of lemon reflected the bitter fate of those lost, while the empty chair served as a solemn reminder that they are present in spirit, though absent in body.
Semper Fi, Marines! Thank you for 250 years of protecting our freedoms and inspiring us all.

Food Share's Annual CAN-Tree Drive
This holiday season, Ventura County came together to support families in need, and I was thrilled to join in the fun by helping build our gingerbread house CAN-tree for the Ventura County Food Share CAN-tree event!
The CAN-tree is more than just a festive display, it’s a creative way to collect non-perishable food donations for local families facing food insecurity. Each can donated brings hope and joy to someone in our community this holiday season.
It was such a joy to be hands-on, stacking cans into a whimsical gingerbread house design, while knowing that each can represents a meaningful gift to someone in need. The spirit of giving and community was in the air!
