Congratulations 2026 Opportunity Grant Winners!

During the week of December 1st, the Foundation for Douglas County Schools presented this year’s Opportunity Grants to deserving schools in Douglas County. Our funding initiatives focus on three essential pillars: Innovation & Leadership, Pathways, and Community. Grants are awarded to teachers whose proposals exhibit the potential for a substantial impact in the classroom. The Foundation raises funds through corporate and community donations to bring innovative ideas to life.

CLEAR SKY ELEMENTARY

This grant will fund an Ari Classroom Kit (12 robots) for a cross-grade level program impacting over 200 students.Fourth graders will design a billboard or obstacle featuring digital safety tips, utilizing Sphero littleBits circuit components. Fifth graders will use block code, navigating Ari through these obstacles and billboards, while interacting with the safety tips.

PIONEER ELEMENTARY

Funding will provide choir risers to enhance both music performances and daily instruction. These risers will also be used daily as part of music lessons and music therapy sessions, supporting creativity and accessibility for all learners. With 26% of our students receiving special education services, these risers will provide a safe and inclusive way for all children to participate—many experiencing the joy of performing for the first time. The risers will have a lasting impact on our school, supporting performances, assemblies, and creative learning for years to come.

SAGEWOOD MS

Funding will allow us to replace Recovery "Couches" giving students a safe, supportive, and hygienic space to rest and ensuring our health room meets current care standards.

This project will fund 10 programmable robots to teach students coding through hands-on, interactive learning. Students will develop problem-solving and computational thinking skills by controlling robots with code, making STEM education more engaging, accessible, and relevant to real-world technology.
