Greetings Friends!

Yes, the crazy Christmas holiday groups finally cleared out and miraculously, the snow started again!  The lovely quietness of town started over the weekend (January 6-7) and we can now zip right up the lifts!  As you know, the fun of living in this resort town is when the crowds leave and we are still blessed with music, dance, theatre, etc. Plus of course, the astounding natural surroundings and what that offers us each day.

My long time Aspen High School classmate, Tony Vagneur, and I finally skied today and had lunch after so many decades!  He has a weekly column in the Aspen Times (click here) and educates us about his lifelong ranching life, and the many old timers who helped create the very special things here we all take for granted.  These include the FREE cross-country trails throughout our valley, bike trails, mountain biking trails, hiking access, etc.

My nephew and his college friends this past weekend suggested I ski to the new HEROS lift and ride it to see the incredible new terrain. So, my ski buddy today, Tony-a former ski patrol, guided me down the chicken way (at my request) so we could look up at Walsh’s, Hyrup’s, Christies, and at the new glades cut below them. The run under the lift, named for Jim Crown, is steep and challenging.  It is a terrific addition to Aspen Mountain.  I will let you know when I ski it!!!

And, one of my favorite events created by bored locals in the 1950’s mid-January- Winterskol- is this weekend. Of course, the best and always thrilling are the fireworks on Little Nell at the base of Aspen Mountain after the skiing Torchlight Parade Saturday night, January 13. From the snow carving competition to the Soupskol Challenge, it is really fun in the cold!

REAL ESTATE UPDATE

People obviously want to still pay to play and be here. Even though there are less sales, the numbers are getting more cuckoo. You can buy for less if you are willing to do the remodel or rebuild-which gets harder and harder here with continuing restrictions. If you want to sell your updated, finished product close to town, with big views, on a nice lot-you could get a stupid price. For example - 1001 Ute Ave sold for $76,000,000 at $4,419/sf, 502 Wrights Road sold for $42,250,000 at $4,759/sf and 501 West Hopkins is under contract, listed for $48,200,000 at $7,088/sf.

Call me - I can help you find a fair buy and/or help you sell!

A Winter Travel Guide to Aspen, ColoradoAmerica’s Chicest Ski Town

There is perhaps no more famous ski area in America than Aspen, Colorado—partly due, no doubt, to the avalanche of famous people that ski there every winter. Yet famous faces aside, Aspen’s lure lies way beyond its glitz and glamor. A former silver mining town whose rich history dates back to the 1880s, it became one of America’s first well-known ski areas with the founding of Aspen Skiing Company in 1946. As leisure enthusiasts and athletes flocked to the powdery slopes, a town rich in art, culture, and culinary boomed around it.
