United Moments with UWYC
|

Kim's Corner
It’s the start of a New Year. Are you full of hope or full of doubt? Energized or reluctant? Optimistic, pessimistic, or somewhere in between? United Way of Yellowstone County is starting the year off with positivity, inspiration, and hope. Optimism is the most important mindset, attitude, and outlook on life to have.
As we kick off the New Year, how are you going to channel your optimism? One way to channel this is through sharing your time and talents with others. Everyone has passions that can be fulfilled through volunteering. This is the perfect time to get engaged in your community! See the Leadership Opportunities article for ways to engage in the progress of United Way of Yellowstone County. Make this the year to give more of yourself!

Family with Just Serve Delivers 229 Pairs of Socks
|
Thank you to the amazing anonymous family who decided to get involved with the Sock It To 'Em sock drive. They were searching for involvement opportunities on UWYC's Volunteer page and made it their goal to collect at least 200 pairs of socks. They ended up exceeding their goal by 29, gathering a total of 229 pairs of socks! Thank you for dedicating your time and efforts to the development of Yellowstone County! We salute you!

Youth Volunteer Corps Spreads Holiday Cheer
|
|
Youth Volunteer Corps, a community service club for youth ranging from ages 11 to 18 sponsored by United Way's Volunteer Center, assembled 250 candygrams to accompany Meals on Wheels (Adult Resource Alliance) deliveries. They also made 50 Holiday Treat Bags for Tumbleweed's holiday party for users of their drop-in center.
The candygrams included small mixed candies wrapped together in cellophane bags with a holiday tag and the signature of the YVC member who assembled it.
The Holiday Treat Bags consisted of small bags filled with snacks such as raisins, candy canes, fruit gummies, and Rice Krispie treats, all adorned with hand-decorated cards and a note from the YVC member who created it.

Underriner Motors Car Giveaway
|
|
Thanks to Bill, Mary, and Blake Underriner, as well as Underriner Motors employees, a gently-used and refurbished Honda Odyssey was given away to Jessica for the Underriner Motors Car Giveaway.
Jessica is a single mother of three children who was working hard to support her family, however the lack of a reliable vehicle created major challenges. Jessica’s previous car was totaled after hitting a deer, causing her to struggle to find transportation for the following year. Receiving this vehicle will change the lives of Jessica and her family as it will not only allow Jessica to maintain her employment, but it will also give their family the freedom of dependable transportation.
“Transportation is a key component to financial stability and career success,” says Kim Lewis, President and CEO at United Way of Yellowstone County. “Working with community partners and donors such as Underriner Motors improves our community and provides incredible relief for families in need.”
The vehicle is the tenth such gift that Underriner Motors has given away. United Way’s local non-profit partners were invited to submit nominations to United Way for potential candidates in need of transportation. The applications were vetted for eligibility and need by United Way. Underriner Motors employees made the final decision on the recipient and dedicated their personal time and money to assuring that the gently-used car is safe and reliable.
"The joy of seeing every one of the people who have received a car these ten years is just unbelievable. It's all employee driven too; they pick the person, they buy the presents... it's a really great thing," said Bill Underriner.
