Happy New Year!
The 115th Congress convened earlier this week, we'd like to highlight the first elected woman to the House, Jeannette Rankin.
100 years ago Jeanette Rankin was sworn in as the first elected woman to serve in the House of Representatives. The daughter of a Montana farmer Jeannette Rankin served two terms non-consecutive terms. This trailblazer led the way for generations of women to participate in national politics. Some of her more memorable quotes are:
"Men and women are like right and left hands; it doesn't make sense not to use both,"
"We're (women) half the people; we should be half the Congress,"
"If I had my life to live over, I would do it all again, but this time I would be nastier."
