Supporting The Arts & Arts Councils Everywhere

Volume 5 No. 49 | December 29, 2023

Notes from the Editor:

Christmas 2023 seems to have slipped by faster than most years for me. Maybe the year was in a rush to be gone or 2024 couldn't wait to show what it has planned for us. On my end, there will be some big changes. I'm not in a hurry but I am definitely easing myself toward the big R — Retirement. Stay tuned. (No changes coming for Arts Blast on the Air!)

You've probably noticed differences in the look of Arts Blast over the past few weeks, the product of some new hands on the editorial and production side. If all goes as planned, a new team will soon be the face of Arts Blast. Watch this space for news.

If you've ever checked out willimiller.com, you might have seen this note I tacked on at the end of the landing page a couple of years ago, reflecting on the COVID effect. I think it could apply at the changing of the guard for any year.

December 31, 2021

Notes from the editor:

And so we begin again.

Onward into the unknown one more time, stronger, more resilient, more determined.

We can do this.

Here's to a happier, healthier, musical, art-filled, even more successful year ahead.

My New Year's resolutions include spending more time making art, learning something new, and figuring out how to use my Instant Pot. What are you planning for 2024?

Jersey Boys is the musical that tells the story of Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons - four blue-collar kids from gritty and humble beginnings who achieved worldwide acclaim, selling millions of albums, sold out performances, and induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.

Featuring more than two dozen hits including: “December, 1963 (Oh What a Night),” “Sherry,” “My Eyes Adored You,” “Walk Like a Man,” “Who Loves You?” and many more, Jersey Boys is the Tony, Grammy and Olivier Award-winning sensation that shows life off stage was not as harmonious as it was on stage.

Jersey Boys opened on Broadway in October 2005 and closed in January 2017 after 4,642 performances. It won four Tony Awards including Best Musical. At its closing, Jersey Boys was the 12th longest running show in Broadway history.

FIFTH AVENUE ART GALLERY

.... in Melbourne will open the new year with The World As I See It, the photo art of Jim Kalupa, a Wisconsin native living in Brevard County since 2005. Photography and travel are two of the great passions in his life. As a result, Kalupa said, he has covered much of the globe in well over forty years, always with camera in hand. While much of his work is travel inspired, most recently he has started capturing the beauty of his Florida home. He studied photography formally in the 1980s, but career obligations at the time required his full attention. Since moving to Florida, he’s become completely dedicated to his photo art which he views as a constant and evolving challenge.

The opening reception is January 5, 5:30-8:30 p.m. at Fifth Avenue Gallery, Melbourne
