FRAMER'S CORNER

Welcome to our first Framer's Corner of 2025!!!

This month we are featuring a Framer's Corner with art by a local Missoula artist.....

Anomal Press:

The Artwork of David Miles Lusk

David Miles Lusk is an artist living and working out of Missoula, Montana. David received his Bachelor of Fine Arts with an emphasis in printmaking from the University of Montana in 2014. He is inspired by the intersection of science and mythology, and nature & humanity. He started Anomal Press in the fall of 2016.

This piece by David was framed by our team in the Frame of Mind frame shop! We love how this piece turned out!!

Anomal Press produces spectacular prints and we are more than excited to carry these prints in our new local artist corner in the Frame of Mind frame shop! Stop by to see these wonderful prints and notcards in person!

Now on to the details of how and why these materials were chosen and what makes this print pop!!

Being that there are only neutral colors in this print we chose to stick with neutral tones, textures and high quality framing to give this piece its final touches.

This print was made on beautiful paper and features a deckled edge. In order to preserve the piece entirely and not cover the edge in the framing process we mounted this piece using a technique called float mounting.

When float mounting the materials used are ph balanced, acid free and removable, yet secure, with that being said, here we placed the art on top of the mat, used mulberry paper and rice starch to attach it to the top of the mat and preserved the whole look of the piece.

The darker mat "Moonrock" comes to us from one of our distributors, Neilson Bainbridge. This mat color is very grounding and does a very good job of drawing your eye into the artwork. The top mat "Vintage Gray" comes to us from another distributor Crescent, its color is slightly darker and warmer than the paper and compliments this piece and the design so well. Together these mats work wonders to draw your eye into the artwork.

When assembling and mounting this project a mat build up was added, the mat build up is a technique that adds dimension to the design. We do this by raising the top mat using foamcore strips to create depth and dimension.

Now that we have mounted and matted this piece it is time to add the frame and glazing. For this project we are playing off of the neutral tones and the texture, the matting is neutral and the frame is bringing the texture. The black frame that was chosen has a beautiful cohesive feel with the art and matting that really finishes off this piece. This Larson Juhl frame, "Simpatico" has sadly been discontinued,

but we had enough to finish this piece and we love it!

The final touch is the 99% UV protectant Museum glass that we added. This glass will preserve and protect this piece from UV light, glare and the clarity of this glass is amazing.

Happy New Year!!!!
