The Board’s choice for the 2019 Friends of the Lexington Main Library Volunteer of the Year was an easy one this time. After joining the Friends in March 2016, this Friend told us she wanted to learn more about who we were and what we do before jumping in head first. She began helping with major events and attending monthly Board meetings but in the last 12 months, she took the gloves off. Between rolling out pounds of clay for craft during last December’s Christmas Kick Off Party to unloading countless boxes of book donations to hashing out the finer details to this year’s membership campaign, she has been a driving force in the forward momentum of the Friends.
She is a vital part of the Tuesday Book Sale Super Committee aka The A Team aka The Dream Team, at times being the much needed voice of order in what some may describe as utter chaos but what we know is just a regular Tuesday morning. The other members of the Book Sale Committee look forward to her smile and energy each week as well as her clarification as to whether or not a particular book is fiction or non-fiction.
I personally appreciate her constructive criticism because her words are direct, clear and kind. She states her opinion, allows for everyone to be heard and then ultimately puts every ounce of her effort into the group’s decision. She embodies what a Volunteer of the Year should be. Thank you for all that you do for the Friends.
