Happy New Year!

All of us at PCHS Museum hope you had a great holiday season. We welcome you to a busy season at the museum! This winter, we have three Author Presentation & Book Club programs, three Historic Florence Walking Tours, two Cemetery Walking Tours, and a special display "Pieces of the Puzzle" -- New Perspectives of the Hohokam coming in February.  Additionally, we are partnering with the Florence Library to offer no-charge AZ Speaks programs made possible by Arizona Humanities.   We offer museum tours with general admission (no charge for members). If you have family or friends in town, make sure to take advantage of this opportunity. Advanced notification is not mandatory but is appreciated.    We are always getting new merchandise in the museum gift shop. Explore local water issues with David DeJong on January 23rd!

Join us on January 23rd for an Author Presentation & Book Club with David DeJong. DeJong has published seven books and is the director of the Pima-Maricopa Irrigation Project. The Pima-Maricopa Irrigation Project is a construction project funded by the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation and designed to deliver water from the Central Arizona Project, the Gila River, and other sources to the Gila River Indian Reservation. DeJong’s Author Presentation at 2:00 pm will delve into the hot button topic of local water issues focusing on his newly published book Diverting the Gila. After the program, DeJong will sign copies of his books.   The Book Club selections are DeJong’s three books (Stealing the Gila, Diverting the Gila, Forced to Abandon Our Fields).  Read any of the three titles for Book Club at 1:00 pm. Join us for Author Presentation, Book Club, or both! All three books are available for sale in the museum gift shop.   Book Club Meeting with David DeJong is at 1:00 pm. Donations are appreciated.   David DeJong’s Author Presentation & Book Signing is at 2:00 pm.   This program is $5 per adult and no charge for members. January 14, 1905: Newspapers report that recent rains have swelled the Gila River to one mile in width at Florence. The river was full of floating debris making it impossible to cross, leaving Florence virtually shut off from communication with the outside world. Three railroad bridges were washed out between Florence and Kelvin.
