January 16: Martin Luther King Jr. Day

The third Monday of each January is a federal holiday in celebration of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s birthday, although his true birthday fell on January 15, 1929. MLK nonviolently resisted Jim Crowe laws and protested segregation. His fight for equality and civil rights for Black Americans during the Civil Rights Movement created a lasting impact in the United States. His legacy is one of Black liberation.

"Darkness cannot drive out darkness, only light can do that." -MLK

January 27: International Holocaust Remembrance Day

January 27 commemorates the anniversary of the liberation of the Auschwitz concentration camp by the Red Army in 1945. On this day, we honor the six million Jews who were murdered in the Holocaust, in addition to the millions of other victims of Nazism and antisemitism.

January is Cervical Cancer Awareness Month

Hispanic women have the highest rates of developing cervical cancer, and Black women have the highest rates of dying from cervical cancer. Thanks to regular screening and prevention against the human papilloma virus (HPV), these rates continue to decrease.
