Two Marina Coast Water District Board of Directors were sworn in last month while outgoing Director Herbert Cortez was recognized for his 8 years of service on the Board.
The Board presented a resolution and plaque expressing its sincerest appreciation to Herbert Cortez for his unselfish dedication to our community as a Director on the Board. Herbert's strong leadership and calm demeanor helped the Board find solutions on many important matters. Mr. Cortez was a strong advocate for employees and ensuring that the District kept a customer focus.
Mr. Cortez contributed significantly by serving on the Executive Committee, Budget and Personnel Committee, Joint Powers Insurance Authority, Joint City-District Committee, Community Outreach Committee, Special Districts Association, Monterey One Water, and Local Area Formation Commission (LAFCO).
Newly elected Director Stacey Smith, a commercial finance administrator with 27 years experience as a business owner and entrepreneur, was sworn in to serve her first term until 2028. Stacey has worked for numerous large commercial construction companies throughout California as well as served on construction boards and landscape committees. She has extensive training and education in horticulture, landscape, and agriculture.
Also sworn in was Director Tom Moore, a retired Army Colonel and teacher at the U.S. Naval War College Program at the Naval Postgraduate School. Tom was first elected to the Board in November 1994 and was re-elected to serve until 2028.
