January 2018
Happy New Year! I can't believe how quickly the holidays have passed us by! (I say that every year and it's always the same. Any one have suggestions on how to slow time down??) I hope everyone enjoyed their holidays and they were filled with family, friends and fun. And some great books, too.

Have you had an author visit your school? They're free and we have  a whole bunch of authors  looking to visit schools this Spring -- email me or your teacher if you're interested! We handle all the details and logistics with the school, and an author visit is a powerful and memorable experience that brings to life the experience of reading.

We'll be launching a brand new website very soon! Not only will the appearance be spiffed up Tattered Cover-style, but the user experience will be better than ever. You can still do everything you did before, including browsing for books, checking inventory at each of the stores, see upcoming events, find out about all of our school outreach, everything for our teen readers, and buy books, ebooks, audiobooks, gift cards online, of course. We'll be featuring more content, bestseller lists, staff picks -- and so much more.

Don't forget to use those Tattered Cover gift cards you received for the ultimate reading experience! We hope to see you around the store, at our over 600 in-store events this coming year, at one of our many activities just for teens, and even hope you'll consider joining our Teen Advisory Board!

Wishing everyone a fantabulous 2018,
Don't be foolish... check out January's ARC giveaway Foolish Hearts by Emma Mills below!

by Brigid Kemmerer

"More Than We Can Tell is a companion book to  Letters to the Lost  by Brigid Kemmerer. It is about two teens trying to understand their losses and current struggles and the bond they form. The characters are beautifully written and the story is heart-wrenching. If you liked  The Problem With Foreve r , then this book is for you."  Vivian D., Tattered Cover Teen Advisory Board member
On shelves now!
by Heather Demetrios

This isn't your typical teenage, realistic fic YA. Heather Demetrios'  I'll Meet You There  follows YA heroine Sky as she struggles through her final summer in impoverished, small desert California town. Readers' guts twist as Sky is confronted with the harsh realities of her upbringing. Demetrios does a fantastic job illustrating life in poverty and gives readers a protagonist not only to root for but also to fight with. Sky's summer takes a surprising turn when old-time acquaintance, Josh Mitchell, returns home from Afghanistan. Josh's own inner demons haunt him as he struggles with life after war, but they seem a bit quieter whenever Sky is around. Overall, Demetrios crafts a heartrending novel with characters so real, you find yourself wanting to drive to middle of nowhere California and meet them someday.  Hattie P., Tattered Cover Teen Advisory Board

" Look Past  is about Avery, a transgender teen, who starts digging into Mary Matthison’s recent murder. But when Mary’s killer threatens Avery, he has to survive and find Mary’s killer. While teaching an important message of acceptance, this book is still thrilling and enticing. If you loved Body in the Woods, then you’ll love this, too."

Foolish Hearts by Emma Mills (on shelves now!).

When Claudia accidentally eavesdrops on the epic breakup of Paige and Iris,  the  it-couple at her school, she finds herself in hot water with prickly, difficult Iris. Thrown together against their will in the class production of  A Midsummer Night's Dream,  along with the goofiest, cutest boy Claudia has ever known, Iris and Claudia are in for an eye-opening senior year.

Smart, funny, and thoroughly, wonderfully flawed, Claudia navigates a world of intense friendships and tentative romance in this book about expanding your horizons, allowing yourself to be vulnerable, and accepting--and loving--people for who they really are.
Emma Mills is the author of  First & Then and This Adventure Ends . She lives in Indianapolis, where she is currently pursuing a PhD in cell biology.

Write a
Book Review!

Have you ever walked through a bookstore and seen little cards sticking out of shelves with book reviews? Have those reviews ever made you want to buy a book?

Those cards are called shelf talkers, and we're looking for teens to write shelf talkers for their favorite books. Your friends and family -- and a lot of total strangers -- can see your reviews on the shelves at Tattered Cover. How cool is that?

To write reviews, send an email to  Kristen Gilligan with "Teen Book Review" in the subject line.
Teen Writing

Teens come together to share and critique writing, often with a nationally published young adult author as a mentor and participant. An incredible opportunity for aspiring teen writers! Free and open exclusively to teens.

Meets that last Sunday of each month. This is free and open exclusively to teens. Email  Kristen to RSVP.
Teen Advisory Board

This is a group of book-loving teens who meet every month or so to plan and produce programming for anyone excited about YA literature.

Board members have the opportunity to use their creativity, social media skills, and enthusiasm for books to help with all aspects of event promotion, planning, and execution; introduce (and hang out with) authors at events; write book blurbs; give book talks; get FREE advanced reading copies; and even help select authors who come to the store for events or visit schools.

It's fun, rewarding, and a great resumé builder. Currently, we meet at our Aspen Grove and now our Colfax locations. For more info, read our  TAB Info & Application . To sign up for the TAB, email  Kristen Gilligan . (And tell your bookish friends!)

Author Visits
in Schools
They're FREE!

I mean, who doesn't love a school assembly? Seriously though, Tattered Cover can bring an author into your school to speak to smaller groups of English or writing classes, or a full school-wide assembly.

The best part is that's there no cost to the school. If this sounds interesting, just connect us with your school librarian or principal.
It's a great way to enjoy a book!

Download the free Libro.fm app, buy an audiobook and get stuff done. Listen while you workout, fold laundry, go on a road trip. Libro.fm has just about every title you could want. It's easy and convenient!
