Each year, thousands of students in Texas attend Thespians. They compete in events such as duet acting, musical theatre, and theatrical design. The Thespians festival is more than a competition as students get to watch productions mounted by their peers and attend conferences and workshops. They listen to key-note speakers and attend college auditions. Thespians is one of the biggest events held for theatre and drama students in Texas.
Through an Education Foundation grant titled 'Take the Drama to the Next Level', Permian High Theatre teacher Micaela Grenier, received $3,500 to cover each students' registration fees for the festival this past November. From this event, we had two national qualifiers emerge from the competitions, which means they will have the chance to compete against the top performers from all over the country in Summer 2023!
Madelyn Linville, a sophomore, is one of them, and she said about the experience that "My favorite thing from the week was that I was how much I learned from everyone, not just the teachers and workshop leaders. I was able to learn from every other student I saw perform and got to see what they accomplished and the process of how they got there! It was the ultimate learning experience!"
Junior Hope Joyce is our other national qualifier, and she said her favorite experience was "Being able to expand my horizons and have different conversations from all types of students and professionals, finding common ground and growing as a theatre student and as a person."
