Welcome to the January 2024 Newsletter! In this issue we highlight:

2023 has drawn to a close, and we are grateful for your support as we celebrated our 60th year! Your generosity has been essential to helping us reach this milestone. The Board of Trustees, staff, and many volunteers wish you and your loved ones a happy, healthy new year!

Some of our plans for 2024 include:
  • Installation of a Seismometer, donated by Yale University, to record earthquake activity including the Moodus Noises
  • A talk on the Civil War Letters of Abner Smith, East Haddam resident
  • Our own "Antiques Roadshow" appraisers in May
  • The summer Natural History Series and so much more!

Member benefits include free admission to most events, news and updates of Museum activities and exhibits, and knowing you are among those preserving East Haddam's history. We invite you to renew your membership for 2024 or join as a new member. You can renew on our website or by mail. Together we will keep East Haddam's stories alive!

Historic Buildings of the East Haddam Upper Landing
Dr. Karl Stofko, Historian

Dr. Stofko, East Haddam Municipal Historian, will share photos and stories of homes and buildings in the East Haddam Upper Landing Area. The Champion House still stands in the Upper Landing area today, as shown in the photo. Linking past photos from the late 1700's to the early 1900's with photos of the buildings today, Dr. Stofko will share stories of the people and buildings that shaped the Upper Landing.

Location: East Haddam Historical Society & Museum, 264 Town Street
Free for members and children under 12. Suggested donation of $5.00 for non-members.

Start the New Year with
Yoga at the Museum!
Yoga at the Museum, led by Colleen Alexander, includes seated meditation, gentle warm-ups, and engaging flow with holds to build strength and connect body and mind. Colleen is a certified yoga and meditation teacher, a Reiki practitioner, a published author, and lives on a nonprofit animal sanctuary farm in East Haddam with her husband Sean.

We now offer 2 yoga class options:
  • Mondays at 7 pm
  • Thursdays at 9 am

The classes are appropriate for all levels.
