Happy New Year! We hope you had a wonderful holiday season full of celebrations. Even though our team was battling the colder temperatures and preparing for our first snow event of the season, we made sure to do a little celebrating of our own, as we hosted our annual holiday gathering at Pinheads Bowling Alley. If you don't follow us on social media and missed the recap, take a peek at how our crew likes to have fun when we're not out in the field or behind the desk. Wow, do these Pros know how to get the party rolling!

We had a lot to celebrate as we were looking back on 2022, so make sure to check out our year-in-review video to see what our team accomplished, as well as all of the fun we had all year long!

And as we kick off the new year, we wish you hope, health, and happiness. Whether you're still deciding on resolutions/intentions, picking out your word of the year, or setting your annual goals - the Pros are here for your landscaping needs and ready to make 2023 the best year yet!

Precipitation and freezing temperatures can make for slick conditions on patios and pathways. But did you know that you shouldn’t use just any salt on your pavers? Let’s keep your investment looking like the day it was installed!

While scattering rock salt to remove snow and ice is effective, it can break-down pavers and cement in the long-run, causing crumbling, cracking, and other damage. Instead, it’s best to physically remove snow with shovels or snow blowers and use a calcium chloride-based ice melt, like Safe Step, to prevent icy surfaces. This type of ice melt will be less corrosive on your pavers, while still ensuring the safety of your family during these chilly months!

January always gives us motivation to spruce up around the house. There’s something about taking down holiday decorations that makes us want to declutter and dream up some ways to keep our homes feeling cozy as spring rolls around. Maybe that’s a covered patio for evening dinners outside or a custom firepit for the whole family to gather around. Whatever you’re planning, don’t wait until the weather warms up to get started. There’s plenty of work to be done before we even break ground! Watch our video below, and read on for an inside look on the design and build process.

What does a typical project timeline include?

  • Client introduction and design meeting
  • Initial property assessment
  • Design and planning time
  • Scheduling contractors (pools, electric, gas)
  • Build time and manual labor
  • Weather delays due to snow and frozen ground
  • Possible supply-chain delays

Why start planning now?

Even though many people don't think about starting a landscape project until spring is in sight, the beginning of the year is a great time to get ahead of the curve. Designers may be a bit more flexible with their availability, and coordinating projects early often means beating the rush of people thinking about renovations as the weather warms up.

Congratulations to our Employee of the Month: Abel Medina

Abel started with Property Pros last spring, and we have enjoyed seeing how much he has learned from his crew over the past year! Abel is a reliable employee, and we can always count on him to come to work with a smile on his face.

Over the past few months, Abel has been working on a project that has thrown a few curveballs our way, but he continues to bring his positive attitude and willingness to help wherever needed to ensure we deliver the highest-quality space that will last for years to come.

Thank you, Abel, for everything you do for Property Pros. Congratulations on being our Employee of the Month for January!

Corned Beef & Cabbage Tacos

Do you start the new year with corned beef and cabbage? It's said that eating these foods on New Year's Day symbolized good fortune and prosperity. But we totally understand if you want to mix it up, instead of having the crockpot recipe you typically make. Switch it up with these corned beef tacos with a creamy cabbage slaw. Tradition with a twist!

Ingredients

  • 2 pounds corned beef with spice pack included
  • 1 teaspoon mustard powder
  • 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 1 teaspoon granulated garlic
  • 1/2 teaspoon cracked black pepper
  • Warmed flour tortillas for serving
  • Sliced jalapeno peppers for serving
  • Thousand Island dressing for serving

For the Slaw

  • 1 cup shredded purple cabbage
  • 1 small white onion diced
  • 1 jalapeno pepper diced
  • 2 tablespoons mayo
  • 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon spicy brown mustard

Instructions

  1. Add the corned beef to a large pot or Dutch oven along with the spice packet contents, mustard powder, cayenne pepper, garlic, and seasonings.
  2. Add about an inch of water and cover. Bake for 2 hours at 350 degrees, or until the corned beef is nice and tender. Uncover and increase the temperature to 400 degrees and bake another 15 minutes.
  3. Remove the pot and cool slightly. Shred the corned beef with a fork and set aside.
  4. For the slaw, add all of the ingredients to a bowl and mix well until nice and creamy.
  5. Serve the corned beef on your warmed flour tortillas, then top with the creamy cabbage slaw and drizzle with Thousand Island dressing. Enjoy!
