From Our President

These days when I think of Valentine’s Day, I think of the H E A R T of Assistance League of Inland North County.

H - hopeful in our vision that when essential needs are met in communities, families flourish.

E - empowering those seeking further education with scholarships.

A - altruistically giving of our time to help make a better world around us.

R - ready and already getting started for a new and exciting year of giving.

T - transforming the lives of children and adults through our community programs.

Assistance League of Inland North County could not do the work it does so well without the help of readers like you. Whether it be shopping and supporting us in our Thrift Shop, or your in-kind or monetary donations, we recognize you and send you a heartfelt Valentine.

With Heart,

Diana Towne, President

Recent & Current Events

Fabulous February

It’s FABULOUS FEBRUARY! This is the one month of the year at the Assistance league Thrift Shop when all the upscale clothes you have had your eye on go on sale. Starting February 3rd, you will see 25% off on the gorgeous and pricey things you love. If you look closely and get lucky, you might find items from Chico’s, Coldwater Creek, Madewell, JJill, JCrew, Paige Jeans, Not Your Daughters Jeans, and even perhaps Eileen Fisher. We don’t have all brands all the time as we depend on our generous donors for the merchandise we sell, but you never know what treasure you might come across.

Escondido Jaycees Christmas Parade

For the first time in our history, the Assistance League participated in the Annual Escondido Christmas Parade. Marching behind actors from Patio Playhouse dressed in costumes and in front of an antique tractor, our intrepid members walked, sang Jingle Bells and vigorously waved to everyone calling 'Merry Christmas!' to the crowd who waved and returned our call.

Assisteens® carried our banner, Luis from the shop, dressed in a red sweatshirt and Santa cap, marched with us - waving all the while. We heard a few "we love you guys" along the way, which was uplifting. Being outside on a beautiful day with everyone in holiday spirits was loads of fun!

The Assisteens Auxiliary

We are 27 members strong, only three more to reach our goal of 30. Read More about our Assisteens Auxiliary, including how to become a volunteer.

December’s speaker was Susan Niemi, the Executive Director from Growing Minds preschool. She talked about the program and volunteer opportunities for the Assisteens. Our project for the evening was making Christmas cards for the seniors at Redwood Terrace.

January’s speaker was our very own Assistance League member Nancy Endress. She talked about our upcoming AL's Multicultural showcase. Read More about the Assisteens recent activities.

Ready, Set, Read!

Children’s author, Matthew Gollub, presented a bilingual reading program to parents of Growing Minds Preschools on Dec. 16, 2022. He read one of his books and gave out booklets in English and Spanish about steps to encouraging a love of reading. Students and parents were entertained with his music and puppets!

Project Seniors

Santa’s elves, aka the Project Seniors committee members, were busy bringing joy to the patients of the Villa Pomerado rehab facility in Poway. They fulfilled the wishes of 63 men and women who are too ill to be home for the holidays. The gifts included candy, cosmetics, beanies, slippers, books, stuffed animals, jogging suits, shirts, blouses, Padre’s shirts and hats, and even Gatorade! They were delivered to the Villas in time for their Christmas Party on December 20.

Operation School Bell

December was the month of giving and giving is what Operation School Bell did. In addition to our normal events in October and March to cloth hundreds of K-12 students in need, we also periodically assist other families identified by the school districts we serve.

In December we provided funds and a shopping date at Kohl’s to assist a Rancho Buena Vista School District family with three boys who had a house fire the week before Christmas. The boys received socks, underwear, jeans, shoes, shirts and sweatshirts. The Kohl’s cash earned from that trip allowed us to provide seven warm blankets to Interfaith. In January we were able to provide socks and underwear to 5-11 year old students in need at Miller Elementary School.

Sharing Thanks & Gratitude

THANK YOU to All our Giving Tuesday 2022 Donors!

The numbers are in and we are proud and grateful to report that the Giving Tuesday Campaign brought a total of $12,770 in donations to the chapter.

In a year where costs have skyrocketed and we have already had to reduce this year’s budget by 20%, we depend more than ever on the generosity of our friends and supporters. These donations will be directed to providing school clothing and shoes to several hundred children in our community during our next session in March of Operation School Bell® and might even contribute to the heating bill for our building which has tripled over last month!

We continue to operate our Thrift Shop on Tuesdays and Fridays which remains our primary source of income and with your ongoing support we will continue to be there for those who need our help in 2023 and beyond.
