Simbrah Registry – Breed Classification: Notice of New HerdBook Programming Logic for Purebred Simbrah Classifications.

In September of this year, the Trustees and Staff of ASA were notified of a concern regarding the Purebred Simbrah classification some animals received. Upon an in-depth review, ASA determined that the programming logic in HerdBook Services (herdbook.org) from 2013, gave an animal a Purebred Simbrah classification where another interpretation would classify these same animals as Percentage Simbrah.

The ASA Board met on Monday, November 28, 2022 and passed two resolutions which clarified the interpretation of the programming logic to be used for the Simbrah Registry – Breed Classification and provided for the implementation of the clarification.

The updated programming logic was implemented on December 15, 2022, (the “2022 Programing Logic”).

January ASA Board Meeting and Annual Meeting. Bozeman, Montana

The Annual Membership Meeting of the American Simmental Association will be held at the GranTree Best Western

(1325 N 7 th Ave), Bozeman, Montana, and virtually commencing at 7:00 am Mountain, January 25, 2023.

A regular meeting of the Board of Trustees shall be held in conjunction with the Annual Membership Meeting on January 23-24, 2023, commencing at 8:00 am Mountain.

The Call to the Meeting was mailed on December 17, 2022. There is one Rule Amendment proposed; an

explanation of the Rule Amendment and ballot are enclosed with the Call to the Meeting.

Registration is required to virtually attend the Annual Membership Meeting and the Board of Trustees’

meeting. No registration is required should you plan to attend in-person.

DNA Billing Announcement

Effective immediately, ASA will be implementing a $7.20 processing fee for all semen straws and/or semen samples submitted to Neogen for DNA testing.

Digital Certificates - A New Feature Launched by ASA

ASA recently launched a new feature on Herdbook allowing members to download digital certificates for registered animals. Digital certificates are the easiest, most reliable way to obtain a copy of the registration certificate quickly. At the time of download, they include the most up-to-date EPD and pedigree information. The official record is the Herdbook Services record.

After September 1, 2022, ASA will no longer scan and email or fax copies of printed certificates. Printing digital certificates will replace scanned, emailed, or faxed copies of certificates. If you are the current owner of record, these can be printed directly from herdbook.org without contacting the ASA office. Continue reading.

ASA Has Added Another Digital Feature – Billing Statements

Beginning on August 1 (July statements) members who have provided an email address received a digital statement. As we are experiencing more and more delays with postal services, digital statements provide a fast and effective way to communicate.

If you did not receive a statement, please check your spam folder. Your billing history is available any time through your Herdbook account. Log in, select the My Account tab, select View ASA Billing History, choose the Month and Year then click on Apply.

To update your statement preferences visit the My Account tab and select Update Account. Next, update your statement preferences (paper or digital).
