NOTES FROM THE FIELD - HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Greetings from Nairobi!

This month, to celebrate the promise of the new year, we are focusing on just one story of impact, " Cultivating Wildlife Warriors ."

Meet Paula Kahumbu, the passionate Kenyan conservationist and master story teller who is connecting African viewers with the iconic landscapes and animals that surround them, and increasing awareness of the conservation issues that affect their lives.

Through Paula’s work -- first NTV Wild and now Wildlife Warriors -- African stories of conservation are being told about African conservation heroes by African storytellers. This is a profound shift from wildlife films produced in Africa by westerners for western audiences, and which never gain an African audience.

As of November 2019, through a partnership with Nigerian broadcaster Ebony Life, Wildlife Warriors is airing in 26 African countries and the Caribbean. It's first season of wildlife shows reached an estimated 4 million viewers in Kenya. The EbonyLife rebroadcast has the potential to reach 79 million viewers.

USAID is a proud supporter of Paula's work. Please read our Cultivating Wildlife Warriors story.

Enjoy the read!
