Happy January 2024! Your Horseshoe Bay POA Board of Directors sincerely wishes you a healthy and happy new year. As we start a new calendar year and we reflect upon what has been accomplished up to this point, there has been quite notable progress in our agenda. Different committees were set in place to work on critical and overdue projects in an effort to maintain and enhance our neighborhoods as well as building a strong community core.

The HSB POA sought to make progress in different fronts. We have continued to commit ourselves in attending monthly City Council Meetings in order to remain up to date in city governance matters. We have worked diligently to comply with relevant state laws by attending enrichment programs, updating our bylaws, maintaining legal counsel, improve internal processes by digitizing and coordinating records while identifying and addressing any gaps in our documents, consistently updating our website with new material, information and postings, and building social media platforms to help our community stay informed.

Although things seem quiet due to the Holiday Season, our Capital Projects are still in progress. We have completed the Thanksgiving Mountain entrance and are currently working on obtaining necessary permits to continue with the repair of the Big Spur entrance. We are currently exploring a plan to update Fox Park; the land survey has already been done and a preliminary clean up has been completed. We have also initiated the process to apply for available grants in order to continue the updating of this community park. Additionally, we hired the Austin Chapter American Youthworks in order to improve the walkability of Slickrock Creek Trail by repairing damage caused by heavy rains in 2018. This amazing youth group moved over 8 tons of rock, improved washed out areas and relocated boulders to hold everything in place with the use of only manual tools. Hooray for American Youthworks!

Another important responsibility has been bringing the community together and community outreach. We have accomplished that by organizing engaging community events throughout the year. During 2023 we began our Community Educational Series, which aims to keep our residents engaged and informed with pertinent topics that affect our community. Another addition to our events calendar is the HSB POA Consumer Showcase aiming to bring local businesses that support our Information and Phone Directory into Horseshoe Bay to interact with our community. Our main goal goes beyond entertainment as our focus has been getting our residents involved and engaged in our planned yearly events which contribute to help facilitate local awareness, act as a vehicle or starting point for connection, bring economic benefit for local vendors and artisans, and to build a strong community spirit. The HSB POA’s yearly Spring Fling, Independence Day, Fall Fest and Chili Cook Off, and our Member’s Holiday Event will continue to engage and entertain our community.

We welcome your involvement, your thoughts, your ideas, and your continued support. We urge our residents to become involved, attend your POA monthly meetings to stay informed and volunteer. We look forward to a new year and the opportunities it will bring!

Faith and Friendship: The Genesis of Lake Church

by Whit Holcomb

Over the last seventeen years, Gene Glaeser and his wife, Kaye, have cherished connecting with the Horseshoe Bay community through pickleball, golf, and various social events. "The people here" is Gene's quick response to his favorite thing about Horseshoe Bay. The Glaesers are also impressed with the genuine concern for one another, the amazing abilities people have, and the openness to meeting new people.

Originally from the Plainview, Texas area, Gene received a Bachelor's degree in Biblical studies from Abilene Christian University and then dedicated 14 years to preaching in various Texas locations while obtaining a Master's degree with a strong focus on Koine Greek, the written language of the New Testament, from Pepperdine.

Gene then transitioned into business, assuming marketing and software sales executive roles. This change broadened his understanding of people with various and diverse backgrounds, allowing him to build deeper relationships based on trust and love and more collaboration. During this time, Lake Shores Church in Marble Falls was founded.

While Gene describes gracefully retiring in 2020 from his career and preaching, his relationships with our community have revealed a pressing need for a culturally relevant, scripture-led church. This need led Gene to found Lake Church, which will hold services on Sundays, most of which will be at Quail Point Lodge throughout 2024; please check our calendar for dates.

Quail Point Lodge was chosen due to its location, beauty, and the fact that it sits on the shores of Lake LBJ, helping set the vibe of a lake feeling and the warmth that comes from a close-knit community.

Gene says Lake Church looks "forward to building a thriving community of Christ followers in the Horseshoe Bay area."

Fox Park Survey

We are asking our POA members for their input in developing the Fox Park renovation plan. Below is a link to a survey that will take 3 minutes or less to complete. The answers you provide will help gauge the interest and direction the community wants for the renovation of Fox Park. We are looking at making the park a multi-use area. The renovation is limited somewhat by the size of the lot, budget constraints, approvals, and permits, but we are considering all suggested options.

We will host a community meeting to discuss the survey results and any preliminary construction development issues we may discover between now and the meeting date. We have scheduled a community meeting on Monday, February 12, from 5:30 pm to 7 pm, the location will be determined by survey responses. We will be sending out another email with the location closer to the date of the meeting.
