Hello Friends & Neighbors,

I am grateful to be able to reach you through this medium.

Community engagement is at the forefront of my mission to provide resources, events, and support for our residents and businesses. My motto of "Putting You First...Keeps Us First" will continue to be my guide. I look forward to engaging with you more in the future!  Please take a look at the various events, projects, programs and share with your contacts.

Holiday Fantasy of Lights, South Florida’s popular drive-through light extravaganza at Tradewinds Park & Stables in Coconut Creek, runs nightly from 6-10pm through January 4. The three-mile route includes dozens of static and animated light displays and illuminated trees, including old favorites and brand-new displays. Tickets are $28/car (regardless of how many people are in the vehicle) plus a processing fee, and $60/bus for 15 passengers or more. Tickets are available online only.

When the holidays are long gone but your tree isn't, it's time to chip in and donate your used evergreen to our annual Chip-a-Tree initiative. Over the years we have recycled thousands of trees, which probably would otherwise have gone to landfills. This year your tree can join those recyclable thousands.

The free program requires Broward County residents to remove all decorations from their holiday trees (no decorated trees will be accepted), then bring the trees to a participating park - there are 11 of them - where they will be chipped and used for landscaping throughout the County park system. There is a limit of two trees per vehicle, artificial trees are not accepted, and no commercial vehicles or garbage trucks are allowed. Click below for more info.

A new parking rate structure took effect at the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL). For travelers opting for long-term parking, the new daily maximum rate is $20 per vehicle (up from $15), and valet parking is $30 per day (up from $25). Airport visitors using short-term parking will still pay up to $36 daily, however, it will take less time to reach the maximum short-term (and long-term) rate as the new incremental pricing is based on a $2 charge for every 20-minute parked interval. Additionally, the "first 20 minutes free" grace period for FLL's short and long-term parking still applies.

My County Tour of Duty

Marine Industry Association of South Florida

I took the time to tour the New River with the Marine Industry Association of South Florida to learn about jobs that are produced by this industry. The boat yards are truly an economic engine where good paying jobs are had, many of which are trade jobs that do not require a 4 year degree.
