Kitchen Medicine

Ah, Chai..

Making your own chai at home is actually quite easy and yields fantastic results since you can make it just the way you like. As the weather starts to get cooler, it's a great way to keep your digestive fire healthy, balance out the increase in air & ether elements. I had a few requests to share the recipe after our demo - so here you go. Experiment and come up with your own version.

Choice of tea - (loose leaf or bag) black, rooibos or none.

Milk - whole milk, oat, almond or none

Spices - I like to use whole spices such as cinnamon sticks, cardamom pods (crushed), & clove

Fresh - sliced or grated ginger root & lemongrass (if you have it on hand)

Instructions : Boil your water with the spices! If using black tea or rooibos, add the tea after 2 - 3 minutes of boiling. If adding milk add

To sweeten - per your taste, add raw cane sugar, coconut sugar or palm sugar. If you prefer Honey, wait until your tea isn't hot. In warm tea it's safe to add honey.

Sip slowly and enjoy!

Goes well while curling up with a book, pondering life... or simply sharing with others :)

Oliver Rajamani in Concert on Nov 12th

at The Paramount Theatre!

The first time I heard Oliver Rajamani's voice, I was in dance rehearsal with choreographer Pradeepa Jeeva in Minneapolis (way back in 2001). I thought for sure this was a singer in his 80s or 90s! Oliver's voice has the power to transport you to another place and time. A combination of Romana-Gypsy spirit, Southern Indian folk style and a poetic weaving of North American country (in a way Texas Gypsy way, if you will).

Among his many collaboration, you might be familiar with one artist in particular - Willy Nelson, yes? Oliver is also the producer of Flamenco India , documentary. Oliver Rajamani's music holds a special place in my heart as it's connected with time as a dancer, now a family friend (by way of Vik) and I still can't believe that he played live at our wedding here in Austin! Wow.

Life gets busy and of course we have to prioritize, but as we know - art (especially live performance) is guaranteed to uplift the spirit!

So if you're ready for some soulful music, get your tickets soon & join us at Oliver's concert for his new CD Release on Nov 12th!

Listen to Oliver's Music Here!

Annelize (Bharata Natyam,2013)

Later that year, I had the opportunity to perform at one of Oliver's live concerts alongside a the super talented Flamenco dancer (Olivia Chacon) & Ballerina (Elif Tuzer).

Once again, many thanks to Beverly Demafiles-Schulz for the beautiful photos! If you're looking for a photographer you may reach out to her at www.beverlydemafiles.com
