New Kitsap Humane Society Adoption Coordinator Jeanine Worthington is used to doing multiple things at once. Prior to coming to KHS, she spent five years at PAWS of Bainbridge Island and North Kitsap, covering multiple positions, including Adoption Center Manager, Volunteer Manager, Facilities Manager, and Community Relations Manager - while also selling real estate on the side. She obviously loves a challenge. And she found one with KHS.
"We're able to help a lot of animals here," says Jeanine. "And that's what it's all about; watching the animals go home. I wish more people knew what goes into getting these animals ready to succeed in a new home."
Her most memorable success at KHS came with Douglas the cat, who lived in Jeanine's office for a good part of his stay. "Douglas came in matted, overweight, and declawed. He had to be shaved and have six teeth pulled." In fact, he was the first client of the new Russ and Linda Young Veterinary Lifesaving Center's dental suite, and with a lot of care from KHS staff, he found a loving home.
"The staff here is busy but amazing," says Jeanine. "Animal people get each other... we're a bunch of weirdos. It's great to work with such a supportive group."
At home she's equally busy, with two dogs (plus her dog, Anka, who just passed), four cats, and two rabbits. But again, she's used to doing many things at once - including loving a whole lot of animals at the same time.
