Chapter Bits

Hello Kidlit Creators!

It's Autumn in New York...

Glowing pumpkins and gorgeous gourds have appeared on porches, mums and dahlias and marigolds are blooming, and the first embers of red and orange foliage are spreading across the tree tops. We hope the beauty of the season brings you joy and lights up your creative spirit.

As writers and illustrators, we all cherish creativity. It is one of the core "Values" of SCBWI. Another value is "Connection." It is worth recalling that "No one does this alone. We celebrate the power of connection and strive to ensure our members find lasting and meaningful community through our organization."

We hope the meet-ups, blogposts, workshops, conferences, courses and resources offered through our Westchester SCBWI chapter as well as the organization at large help you feel connected and supported in your work.

Please note that our weekly library meet-up begins tomorrow and is now on Wednesdays.

Check out our Member Calendar to stay up-to-date on events. Please bookmark it, and check it before you go to an event for possible last-minute changes! All events will have a final update 30 minutes prior to start.

Thank you!

In Person: Live Art Practice Workshop

This presentation and hands-on workshop is perfect for illustrators looking for ways to use their valuable skills to engage audiences and start booking interactive live events.

Learn by doing, grow your skills, and increase your potential to book live event opportunities!

We'll focus on:

  • Reviewing the tools and tech behind projecting live drawing demonstrations

  • Brainstorming ideas together for structuring your own live drawing event offerings.

  • Discussing targeted audiences and venues for this kind of event

  • Trying out the setup in a stress free and supportive environment

This event will be useful for any artist who would like to do a live art event but doesn't quite know where to start. Anyone hoping to create a more interactive presentation is encouraged to join and learn with us.

If you can "MAKE IT" there you'll "make it" anywhere!

This November, in lead-up to the NY conference and inspired by the city that never sleeps...

We challenge Writers and Illustrators to bring their ideas to life with us at this first ever New York marathon of creation.

You'll join creators on zoom with an idea for your next manuscript, portfolio piece, dummy, or anything you've been dreaming of bringing to life.

For 24 hours you'll find moderated support, accountability, camaraderie, and help if you get stuck. Plus scheduled check ins, sharing opportunities, prompts and a hashtag to document your progress and create buzz on social media throughout the event.
