A Message from our UUP Chapter President, Ed Quinn "As we close out the Fall semester and as we prepare for the Spring semester, I wanted to take the time to thank all of the volunteers and committees who worked so hard to make it possible for us to continue to build a strong union chapter. A thank you also to our membership for their support and participation throughout the Fall semester. Fund Suny Now!

Coverage of our 12/9 Fund SUNY Action UUP Statewide wrote a story about the statewide Fund SUNY Now action we planned with other UUP Chapters throughout the state.  See here for coverage. Statement from UUP President Frederick E. Kowal on the SUNY Board of Trustees’ Budget Request:   “The SUNY Board of Trustees’ 2020-21 budget proposal, while a good first step in recognizing years of disinvestment in the SUNY system, is a missed opportunity. We support the decision to call for increased state spending to help close the TAP Gap and make critical repairs to SUNY’s aging buildings.” “However, the budget request results in a very small funding increase for SUNY’s cash-strapped state-operated campuses, and zero investment in SUNY’s three public teaching hospitals in Brooklyn, Stony Brook and Syracuse.” Read the entire statement

UUP Advocating for the SUNY Capital Plan Statewide UUP President Fred Kowal has traveled the state since October to advocate for SUNY at NYS Senate hearings on funding SUNY and the future of higher education in New York. Kowal was in New York City on Dec. 16 to testify on the possibility of creating a five-year capital plan for SUNY and CUNY. Kowal strongly supported a five-year capital plan for SUNY to ensure that new construction is built to meet the strict requirements of the state’s Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act . SUNY’s new and existing buildings should be built and retrofitted for net zero carbon emissions and standards. SUNY owns over 2,900 buildings comprising 110 million square feet of space; more than 40 percent of the state’s buildings are owned by SUNY. Of those, 40 percent are over 50 years old. Campus Compression/Inversion Report Form

This is the report form that campuses will need to fill in once each campus finishes their regression analysis for the Compression Salary Increases. The format and information on this form was agreed to by SUNY and UUP. UUP will receive a copy of this report once it is finalized and reviewed by SUNY Systems Administration. As you can see it will show how the funds were distributed at each campus and a listing of members who received any salary increases. UUP will also be provided with the list of members who receive any increases as it has with previous Discretionary Salary Increases. This form also describes the data sources to be used when running the regression analysis in addition to the campus data about each member. The campus data points to be used in the regression analysis have been determined by the agreement between UUP and SUNY. Each campus will need to identify which data source they used to determine the market salary benchmarks.

NYS/UUP 2019-2020 Individual Development Awards

Application Period is Now Open! The NYS/UUP Joint Labor-Management Committees (NYS/UUP JLMS) is pleased to announce the opening of the  2019-2020 Individual Development Awards (IDA) Program  application period. The funding is intended to assist eligible UUP represented employees (full and part-time) in developing their full professional potential and in preparing for advancement. UUP Opens 2020 Scholarship Application Process SUNY students are invited to apply for annual scholarships of $3,000 offered by United University Professions. The application deadline for the UUP College Scholarship Fund scholarships is March 1, 2020. Applications online .
