Happy Pipes, Happy Life

Keep Fats, Oils, and Grease Out of Your Drains

Putting fats, oils, and grease (FOG) in pipes is a major source of plumbing problems. When FOG is poured down the drain, it solidifies as it cools and creates clogs in pipes, leading to sewer overflows and back-ups.

To prevent pipes from clogging:

1. Don't pour FOG down the drain: Instead, scrape grease from pots and pans into a disposable container, let it cool and harden, then throw it away.

2. Don't rely on hot water which may temporarily melt grease. It will eventually cool and solidify, making the clog worse.

3. Soap can break down grease, but it will eventually lose its effectiveness, and the grease will still solidify and congeal on the pipe walls.

4. Remember garbage disposals only grind up food waste, not grease, and the ground-up waste can still cause clogs.

Please keep your pipes happy and keep FOG out of your drains!
