Hope Talks returns to Hope Center Houston this Friday, February 24th at 11:00 a.m.

Hope Talks (think Ted Talks) are held the last Friday of every month from 11-12:00 p.m., right before lunch is served to our guests.

These informal presentations are held in our gathering room and feature speakers with a positive, inspiring, and transformative story of hope. Open to HCH volunteers, friends, and members of the community, all are invited to come for our first kick-off gathering this coming Friday. Hope to see you there!

ABOUT THE SPEAKER
Formerly homeless and unemployed himself, today Andrew Rey is a professional plumber and a proud member of Plumbers Local 68 Union in Houston, Texas. Andrew volunteers at HOPE Center Houston and is an advocate for homeless alcoholics and addicts everywhere. He was awarded “Achiever of The Year” by the Houston Coalition for The Homeless in 2019. 

Andrew has served on the board of Directors for the Galveston Club, a nonprofit that supports sobriety groups on Galveston island (2019-2021). He has played music for 38 years, and currently serves with the Worship team and teaches Worship to Jesus Kids at Church of The Living God in Galveston.

UPPER ROOM WORSHIP SERVICE
SATURDAY, FEB. 25, 2023

Several years in the planning, we are excited to expand our weekly guest services to now include Saturdays, and you are invited to join us!

Beginning this coming Saturday, February 25th from 9am-12pm (plan on arriving at 9:45 upstairs to attend the worship service) our very own “Hope Church” will include breakfast & bible (Sunday school), an ecumenical praise and worship service (including a sermon by Rev. Joe), and a delicious and healthy lunch served for our guests in the Gathering Room.

Volunteers and donations needed and welcomed to include providing meals, musicians, speakers, teachers, security and more for upcoming Saturdays. Learn more by contacting Hope Center Houston's chaplain, Adam Broussard for details ~ adam@hopecenterhouston.org

ABOUT OUR GUEST MINISTER
REV. JOE
Rev. Josam (Joe) Kariuki Kamau is the United Methodist Church District Superintendent for 15 churches located in the Rift Valley area of Kenya. Rev. Kamau founded the Trinity Mission School which currently provides education for 200+ high school age students.

In addition, Rev. Joe provided the vision and leadership to complete The Lake Elementaita Woodlands Lodge which is a safe house and empowerment center for women and children located in Gilgil, Kenya. The lead church in the district, Trinity United Methodist Church, also houses a medical clinic and a mobile medical vehicle to provide healthcare for all citizens in the area..

HCH BENEFIT CONCERT
SUNDAY, MARCH 5, 2023

Performing: The Prevailing Winds

On Sunday, March 5th at 7pm, The Prevailing Winds will premier their first 2023 concert at John Wesley Methodist—their new home.

Music will include selections loosely tied to the ideas and theme of home, including a moving section from TCU Professor Emeritus of Jazz Studies Curt Wilson’s “Ukrainian Dances,” which Wilson composed after visiting Ukraine and hearing local folk music.

Also included will be European composers who incorporated the love of their homeland into their music, folk music of America such as “Yankee Doodle,” “Oh My Darling, Clementine,” and “My Old Kentucky Home,” and two moving arrangements of traditional Christian church hymns.

Consisting of 40 volunteer musicians with ­­various backgrounds and exceptional talents, The Prevailing Winds are thrilled to perform at John Wesley and share their passion for music, as well as support the mission of The Hope Center.
