Always heroes this year with masks school lunch hero day
May 1, 2020
Dear SDCOE team,

I hope you will join me in thanking our school nutrition employees for all their hard work during this pandemic.

The Juvenile Court and Community Schools food services team has stepped up in a big way to ensure our children are fed and ready to learn while campuses are closed. And this year, employees from other teams have also become school lunch heroes, like our PASS AmeriCorps members who shifted from directly helping students to supporting local food banks, meal packaging, and meal distribution.

San Diego County schools have served more than 1.5 million meals to local families since campuses closed to prevent the spread of COVID-19. I cannot say enough how much I appreciate the dedication and commitment of our food service workers. These feeding sites are a critical lifeline for some of our communities most affected by the pandemic.

A lot of things have changed due to the pandemic, but the dedication of our team is a constant. Even though we're supporting our students from a distance, everyone at SDCOE is finding new and creative ways to inspire and lead innovation in education.

Food service workers have always been vital contributors to student learning but never in as visible a way as they are now. Keep up the good work.
Sincerely,

Paul
