Greetings!

"Life starts all over again when the air gets crisp in the fall."

~ F. Scott Fitzgerald

September always reminds me of new beginnings. Even though I live in temperate California, the fall reminds me of my childhood on the East Coast and the transition from humid summers to crisp fall days. I loved playing in the beauty of autumn leaves falling. This season always signaled the beginning of school. I remember loving the start of the school year—going shopping for a new school bag, binders, marble notebooks, and a new set of pencils.

I am now blessed to witness my grandchildren beginning school.

I have always loved the clarity of new beginnings. For me, this month represents a new beginning in my teaching calendar. I will be teaching my first memoir workshop at our local bookstore and gathering place, Godmothers Books.

Since last January, I have been facilitating a Sacred Circle there for women aged 60 and older, and it has been well attended and deeply meaningful. It is also a highlight for me—the coming together of kindred spirits. Now I will guide others in writing their memoirs, work I have done in other settings for many decades.

I am also excited that the children's picture book I have been creating with my eldest granddaughter will be published next month. We're putting on the final touches and can't wait to share it with you! I hope to arrange some book signings!

Wishing you many blessings!

Theo of Golden by Allen Levi (novel)

While reviews of this book have been mixed, I agree with the assessment that it's a best-selling phenomenon. I could not put it down. The protagonist fascinated me, and the writing was spectacular. It is also a wonderfully original story.

We do not find out until the end of the book why Theo, an elderly man, arrived in the southern city of Golden. Little by little, this flâneur brings the small town together by buying portraits of local residents that hang in the coffee shop and then gifting them back to the subjects. This is a story about compassion and the art of giving and receiving.

It's so lovely that I do not want to say any more, in case you have not yet read it!
