Chapter Bits

Please join us in welcoming author/illustrator

April Castoldi, as SCBWI Westchester's Assistant Regional Advisor and newest member of our Regional Team. April will also be hosting the monthly Creative Jam (info below). We're so excited to have

April on board!!

About April:

April is a pediatric speech-language pathologist, so she has a lot of experience reading books with young children. She often develops her own educational/therapeutic materials, including writing and illustrating “adaptive” interactive picture books. She has been a volunteer and organizer for many non-profit organizations, and has had an Etsy shop for 9 years, selling items like hand-painted silk scarves and graphic t-shirts. She enjoys leading mandala drawing workshops.

Hello Kidlit Creators!

We hope you had a great summer! Before we dig in, we wanted to share some information about SCBWI membership levels:

All paying members are Premium members. Premium member profiles display banners indicating their membership category:

  • Associate (pre-published, seeking first-time publication),
  • Full (self-published or published outside of children’s books), or
  • PAL* (meaning Published And Listed - the member’s work has been published by a traditional publisher of books or magazines).

*If you have published a book, you please add it to your member profile.

Members can now choose a Home Region in their member profile.

Log in and go to Member Home > My Profile > Edit My Profile. Scroll down the settings and click the arrow beside “Set your home region, and add others you’re interested in.” If you live in Westchester, you can choose that as your home region.

The most up to date event information is in our Member Calendar (linked above) so please bookmark and check before you go to an event for any changes! All events will have a final update 30 minutes prior to start.

Thank you!

In Person: Live Art Practice Workshop

This presentation and hands-on workshop is perfect for illustrators looking for ways to use their valuable skills to engage audiences and start booking interactive live events.

Learn by doing, grow your skills, and increase your potential to book live event opportunities!

We'll focus on:

  • Reviewing the tools and tech behind projecting live drawing demonstrations

  • Brainstorming ideas together for structuring your own live drawing event offerings.

  • Discussing targeted audiences and venues for this kind of event

  • Trying out the setup in a stress free and supportive environment

This event will be useful for any artist who would like to do a live art event but doesn't quite know where to start. Anyone hoping to create a more interactive presentation is encouraged to join and learn with us.

It will be taught by Elizabeth Savanella, Illustrator and SCBWI Westchester Illustrator Coordinator. Need more info? Email Elizabeth
