Recipe of the Week!

Love Chocolate?
Check out these yummy brownies that Penny found. It's a recipe that only makes 8 brownies so you can make them and indulge and then they'll be gone (then you can make them again!!).

Ingredients:
3 1/2 ounces of semisweet chocolate, chopped
4 Tablespoons of unsalted butter, cut into 4 pieces
1 Tablespoon of unsweetened cocoa powder
1/2 cup plus two tablespoons (4 1/3 ounces) sugar.
l large egg plus 1 large yolk
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup (2 1/2 ounces) all purpose flour.

Instructions:
  1. Adjust oven rack to middle and heat to 350 degrees. Make a foil sling for a 81/2 x 41/2 inch pan by folding 2 long sheets of aluminum foil. The first sheet should be 81/2 inches wide and the second sheet should be 4 1/2 inches wide.
  2. Lay sheet of foil in pan perpendicular to each other with extra foil hanging over the edges of pan. Push foil into corners and up the sides of the pan, smoothing foil flush to pan Grease foil.
  3. Microwave chocolate butter and cocoa in a bowl at 50% power stirring occasionally until melted and smooth, 1-3 mins. Let cool slightly.
  4. Whisk sugar, egg and yolk, vanilla and salt together in a medium bowl until combined. Whisk in melted chocolate mixture until combined. Stir in flour with rubber spatula until just combined.
  5. Transfer batter to prepared pan, Bake until toothpick comes out with a few moist crumbs attached, 24-28 minutes rotating pan halfway through baking. Let cool completely on a wire rack. Remove brownies using foil.

September New Events!!
Join Lianne for The Roaring Twenties, Sept 10th at 3:30pm

The Roaring Twenties was a period of dramatic social and political change
It was a time of the Jitter-Bug and Juke Boxes, the Bee’s Knees and the Cat’s Pajamas. Its era had no precedent and its place in history marks it as the most revolutionary decade of the 20th Century.

Shaking off the horrors of the recent world war, and reaping the windfall of economic growth, this time was fueled by the rise of women’s power, prohibition, movies and jazz.
It was an era bigger than life, louder than convention – it was the Roaring 20’s! Join Lianne Harris for a fun and entertaining review of this amazing decade.

If you've attended one of Lianne's presentations before you will be on Penny's list. If you haven't and would like to attend, please email us at events@widowedfriends.ca
