NIOT-Chesterfield Q&A: Starting a NIOT Group During the Pandemic
A high school student and a former mayor join forces to stand up to hate in a suburban New Jersey town founded in 1670.
High school student Eesha Shrivastava and Rita Romeu started Chesterfield-NIOT in 2020. They decided to start the group after Eesha noticed some of her classmates made racist jokes. She'd also heard about some incidents involving teenagers spray painting swastikas on sidewalks. She wanted to take a stand and put a stop to it at her school and in her town.
